A Mississippi eighth-grader reportedly died from COVID-19 one day after she tested positive for the virus.
Identified as 13-year-old Mkayla Robinson, who attended Raleigh Junior High School in Raleigh, Miss., the young teen was described as a “perfect student.” Robinson tested positive on Friday, and the Daily Mail cited a social media post to note that the child passed away Saturday on the way to the hospital after having trouble breathing.
The official cause of death is not known, nor is her vaccination status, according to the Daily Mail. It’s also not clear if she had any underlying health conditions which could have complicated matters.
According to various reports, masks were not mandatory at her school, although students had the option of wearing masks. Smith County School District would soon change that policy after a number of students and staff tested positive for COVID-19 — the science is very murky on the effectiveness of cloth masks.
A Facebook page set up for the school band acknowledged Mkayala’s heartbreaking death — the school’s former band director and his wife recently lost their battle with the virus, according to various reports.
“She was the perfect student. Every teacher loved her and wanted 30 more just like her. Please pray for Raleigh Junior High, the band, and especially the family as they deal with this,” the post read.
As of Friday, at least 76 students and 11 educators had tested positive in the district since school began on Aug. 6, with 411 students and 11 educators being quarantined, the British tabloid noted.
“After much consideration for the welfare of our children, Smith County Schools will require all personnel and students to wear a mask,” the district announced on August 10.
Robinson died four days later and, sadly, those who have politized the pandemic all along used her passing to attack Mississippi’s Republican Gov. Tate Reeves.
On Friday, Reeves noted the history of children having minimal symptoms from the virus.
“If you look at those individuals under the age of 12, what you find is that it’s very rare that kids under the age of 12 have anything other than the sniffles,” the governor said. “Does it happen from time to time? Sure it does.”
While the Republican issued a state-wide mask mandate for schools last year, he said Friday he will not do so again.
“I don’t have any intention of issuing a statewide mask mandate for any category of Mississippians at this time,” Reeves said. “I don’t know how I can say that differently other than the way I’ve said it repeatedly for a number of days and weeks and months.”
Meanwhile, Reuters reported over the weekend that the U.S. hit a record high number of children hospitalized with Covid-19. And while the liberal media is heavily engaged in a campaign to report that the delta variant “appears to affect younger people more severely than earlier versions of the virus,” as Rolling Stone stated, this seems to be an anomaly.
Phil Kerpen, a syndicated columnist, and free-market policy analyst said in a tweet last week: “The world’s top pediatric COVID expert pointed out last week that Delta has become dominant everywhere, but the false fear panic about it being worse for kids is confined exclusively to the United States.”
The tweet linked to a tweet from Alasdair Munro, senior clinical research fellow in pediatric infectious diseases, University of Southampton, who said “the USA is the only one where there seems to be complete panic, believing it is somehow, suddenly, much more dangerous for children.”
