CNN reports Taliban fighters chanting ‘Death to America’ seem ‘friendly at the same time’

It’s really getting hard to take CNN seriously, and the latest example of “journalism” from network president Jeff Zucker prompts the idea that perhaps the cable network should just close shop and be done with it.

In what borrows from CNN’s supportive coverage of last year’s Black Lives Matter riots that swept America, destroying a number of Democrat-run cities, viewers were informed that armed Taliban militants who overran the capital of Afghanistan were overall just a “friendly” bunch.

A CNN correspondent reporting from outside the U.S. Embassy in Kabul on Monday told viewers that members of the Taliban were chanting “death to America,” before adding that they seemed “friendly” all the while — as the camera panned to a number of militants shouting from atop a vehicle.

“They’re just chanting ‘Death to America,’ but they seem friendly at the same time,” said CNN’s chief international correspondent Clarissa Ward, adding that it’s “utterly bizarre.”

To reassure viewers that their eyes aren’t playing tricks on them, yes, Ward appears to be wearing a hijab, with only her face unveiled.

As the old saying  goes, what a difference a day can make, as seen in the photo below that captured Ward’s attire one day apart:

Here’s a longer clip of her report, that includes footage of “smiling” Taliban fighters passing the reporter while traveling on a road:

As for the “friendly” assessment, there are a number of graphic videos online showing the trail of death that followed the Taliban to Kabul, with Afghan citizens seen lying in the streets in pools of blood. While the footage is too graphic to include here, some of the dead appear to be Afghan security forces, though few put up any resistance.

Ward certainly called to mind CNN national correspondent Omar Jimenez, who was reporting late into the night in August 2020 in Kenosha, Wisc., following the police-involved shooting of Jacob Blake.

Jimenez was reporting against a backdrop of a raging fire while the chyron declared: “FIERY BUT MOSTLY PEACEFUL PROTESTS AFTER POLICE SHOOTING.”

To be clear, this was not an anomaly among the liberal cable news networks, as seen from MSNBC’s Ali Velshi in May 2020 as he reported from Minneapolis, Minn., after the death of George Floyd.

Again, the back drop is a city ablaze.

“I want to be clear on how I characterize this. This is mostly a protest,” he claimed. “It is not generally speaking unruly but fires have been started.”

As was seen last year, CNN was the source of plenty of mocking and ridicule for the ridiculous statement from its correspondent.

Here’s a quick sampling of some of the responses to the latest story from Twitter:
