Erin Elmore: A cautionary ‘Me Too’ tale about politicians

“If a woman [in politics] gets raped, it better be by a Republican.”

Political commentator David Webb said this recently, on his Sirius XM satellite radio show on Patriot channel 124.

It is harsh but true. Webb was not so subtly saying that there is vastly disparate treatment of men accused of sexual misgivings based upon their political party.

Like most things in the eyes of Democrats and the mainstream activist media, this is all Donald Trump’s fault. Who could forget the 2005 hot-mike conversation between Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush and Donald Trump that resurfaced during the 2016 presidential election?  These were mere words, not actions, yet Trump was eviscerated by the press, called a rapist, and told to drop out of the presidential race.

This “locker room talk” coupled with the fact that Trump became president, beating a woman, spawned the “Me Too” crusade.  Leftists who saw Trump as a misogynist and couldn’t emotionally handle his victory channeled their hatred into a crusade painting Trump-like men as sexually harassing oppressors. If you were white, powerful, successful, seemingly conservative, they were coming for you!

The perfect outlet for their ire was Trump Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Apoplectic that Trump was getting to appoint not one, but now two Supreme Court Justices, the left went into attack mode.

In his lynching of a nomination hearing, Democrats made a deity of a woman with serious creditability concerns. She made seemingly baseless and uncorroborated allegations about the Justice nominee. It didn’t matter that the story had holes or contradictions or that it occurred when he was 17 and she was 15.  It was wall-to-wall OJ Trial-style coverage. Celebrity wash-up Alyssa Milano was even in attendance.

This birthed the Me Too Movement’s more perilous sister, “Believe All Women.”  There is never a due process or thorough investigation. Simply put, if SHE says it, it’s true.

Clearly, this is a dangerous weapon.  In these cases, a political weapon to destroy Republicans, but never ever Democrats.

Case in point, Tara Reade, who accused Joe Biden of sexual assault.  Reade, a seemingly credible source who worked for Joe was essentially cast aside by the mainstream media. There were no hearings, no investigations, no media circus. Where was Alyssa Milano?  Oh, she was busy tweeting excuses why this case was “different.”

And just like that, an end of an era. Believe all women was dead. The slogan tacitly became “believe all women only when the perpetrator is a Republican.”

Democrat New York Governor Cuomo certainly doesn’t fit the description of a conservative perp.  However, he has now been accused of sexual misconduct by 11 women, in reading the report conducted on the matter, these allegations are corroborated, serious and credible.  To date, Cuomo has not yet resigned. He actually doubled down on his behavior, clearly he understood the slogan.

Democrat politicians are not circling the wagon around Governor Cuomo.  They are actually advocating for him to step down. Even Joe Biden isn’t supporting the handsy governor.

So wait, is everything you read above completely wrong? A Democrat is in hot water. Yes and no.

Yes, he’s in hot water. No, this is about women. You see, Cuomo would have never been held to task if it wasn’t for New York Attorney General Letitia James. She’s not a victim advocate or a sexual assault prosecutor. She is a political opportunist who has her eye on the Governor’s Mansion in Albany.  With Cuomo out of the picture, she can swoop in and pack for Upstate New York.

James was smart. She knew that Cuomo could never go down for covering up New York nursing home deaths due to placing Covid infected seniors in these homes instead of using the under-utilized Javitz Center or USS Comfort.  Democrats would vilify her because they were complicit in the cover-up. This would never gain their support, as this was occurring in other Democrat-led states like PA and New Jersey. Plus, a Covid failure in New York would be a failure for Biden and the mainstream media who praised Cuomo for his handling of Covid.

So, James chose wisely. She went with the sexual assault allegations and has gained national consensus for her efforts to get Cuomo out of her governor’s spot.

Clearly, none of this is about a women’s movement. It is about blind political ambition and partisanship. Forget the hashtag Me Too, no need to “believe all women.”  The takeaway is that feigned partisan concern is just that. Never trust an elected official with a political agenda, whether she’s a woman or not.
