President Donald Trump does not consider the likely passage of the $1 trillion-plus infrastructure package a form of winning or an acceptable example of the art of the deal which could come back to haunt Republicans in Congress.
Instead, the big government legislation is “a disgrace” that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), is gifting to the Democrats instead of the GOP using its negotiating leverage, the ex-POTUS declared on Saturday in a statement via his Save America political action committee.
While urging Republican lawmakers to “think twice” about approving it, he also warned that political endorsements could be off the table for anyone politician voting yes. “Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill will be used against the Republican Party in the upcoming elections in 2022 and 2024. It will be very hard for me to endorse anyone foolish enough to vote in favor of this deal.
The Congressional Budget Office has separately estimated that the infrastructure bill — which is supposed to be about fixing bridges and roads — would add a massive $256 billion to the federal deficit over the next decade. U.S. Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) is attempting to object to the bill, but Republican support — if it holds up, thereby preventing a filibusters — appears to be ensuring its passage, perhaps as early as next week.
In his fiery statement, the 45th president hardly minced words about some of the onerous provisions that are reportedly contained in the bill:
“Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill is a disgrace. If Mitch McConnell was smart, which we’ve seen no evidence of, he would use the debt ceiling card to negotiate a good infrastructure package.
“This is a 2,700 page bill that no one could have possibly read–they would have to take speed reading courses. It is a gift to the Democrat Party, compliments of Mitch McConnell and some RINOS, who have no idea what they are doing. There is very little on infrastructure in all of those pages. Instead, they track your driving so they can tax you. It is Joe Biden’s form of a gas tax but far bigger, far higher and, mark my words, far worse. They want to track you everywhere you go and watch everything you do!”

Trump, who implied that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s insistence on a simultaneous vote on a $3.5 trillion (or more) spending bill constitutes the Green New Deal under another name, again singled out frequent rhetorical sparring partner McConnell for scorn:
“Mitch is playing right into Nancy’s hands, not to mention the fact Chuck Schumer is already going around saying this is a big victory for the Democrats. Whether it’s the House or the Senate, think twice before you approve this terrible deal.
“Republicans should wait until after the Midterms when they will gain all the strength they’ll need to make a good deal, but remember, you already have the card, it’s called the debt ceiling, which the Democrats threatened us with constantly.”
Trump expressed some optimism, however, that the bill could be stopped in the U.S. House, which –like the Senate — is under narrow Democrat control.
“The good news is that the progressive wing of the Democrat Party will lose all credibility with this approval. Additionally, Kevin McCarthy and the Republic House members seem to be against the bill. If it can’t be killed in the Senate, maybe it dies in the House!”
On his Friday evening broadcast, Fox News host Tucker Carlson declared that much of the bill “has nothing whatsoever to do with infrastructure.

“Instead this bill will make science denial official, it will enshrine ‘gender identity’ in federal law, it would allow the government to track your driving. Why? So they can charge you a fee for every mile you go, in addition to the gas tax. And scariest of all, this bill requires all new vehicles in the United States to come with monitoring technology…that means going forward, you will need the express permission of your federal overlords before you start your car in the morning because it’s their car now.
Carlson then read off the names of the 17 Republicans who have reportedly voted to fast-track the bill. “Now a few of these people plan to retire soon, thank heaven, but most of them intend to get reelected at some point. And it might be good if voters made that impossible.”
