Lindsey Graham calls for a ‘draft Trump movement’

Sen. Lindsey Graham pushed for former President Donald Trump to run for his second term in 2024, citing a plethora of domestic and foreign policy crises that have already surfaced the short time that President Joe Biden has been in office.

In a Tuesday night interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity, the South Carolina Republican discussed a range of topics including mass illegal immigration, a dramatic increase in cartel drug smuggling, and war in the Middle East between Israel and Iran-sponsored terrorist group Hamas — all of which appear to have taken the Biden administration off-guard and none of which appear close to being resolved.

That said, both Hannity and Graham agreed that during Trump’s term, the issues and situations vexing the current White House were well under control, especially along the U.S.-Mexico border, where the vast majority of drugs including deadly fentanyl are being smuggled in by cartels.

“We’ve done everything but take an ad out in the paper, ‘Come to America,'” Graham said. “We’re stopping deportations, [they’ve] basically put [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] out of business

“Joe Biden’s overwhelmed by the job of being president,” Graham added. “The left has lost its mind. There’s more fentanyl that crossed the border this time in 2021 than in all of 2020.

“Israel is under the gun — 3,500 rockets [fired by Palestinian militants]. Where is it coming from? Iran. To the Biden administration, you would be insane to start negotiating with Iran as long as they’re still the largest state sponsor of terrorism,” the South Carolina Republican and staunch Trump ally continued.

“So I am very worried about our national security. I’m very worried about our border here at home. 2022’s gonna be a hell of an election,” he went on. “If you’re a conservative person and you don’t vote in 2022, you have nobody to blame but yourself.”

Graham then went on to tout the former president and directly call for him to be pressed into running again.

“I miss Donald Trump. None of this would have happened if President Trump was president today,” he said. “I hope he’s considering running. Let’s start a ‘draft Trump’ movement. He’s the one guy I think can go to the American people and say, ‘Let me finish what I started. What I did worked.'”

Hannity closed out the segment saying that he believes Trump’s policies “worked” along with conservatism in general. “Any time those policies are implemented, it works,” he added, naming off several leaders of competitor nations that he said feared Trump but do not fear Biden.

“They’re cleaning our clock and when Trump was president of the United States there was a different attitude the world had” toward the country, Graham noted further. “I miss that attitude. We’re weaker today than we’ve been since [President] Jimmy Carter.”

Trump has teased running again in 2024 but he and his surrogates have said they are waiting to see the results of the 2022 elections, presumably whether Republicans can recapture control of the House or Senate or, preferably to the party, both chambers.

In the meantime, Trump’s calendar is getting full once again with political events. He is reportedly resuming political rallies next month when he will headline the North Carolina Republican Party convention June 5. He is also scheduled to hold a pair of campaign-style rallies next month as well, along with another around Independence Day.
