White House, Pelosi try to recognize ‘Mother’s Day’ but can’t put ‘birthing people’ genie back in bottle

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Biden administration both issued statements on Sunday recognizing and celebrating “Mother’s Day” as the far-left faction of their party rejected the gender role-specific term and instead substituted the phrase “birthing people.”

“Our mothers are our Guardian Angels, and we carry them always in our hearts, whether or not we are blessed to have them with us. Happy Mother’s Day to you and your family,” Pelosi, a California Democrat, said in a statement posted to her congressional website.

Meanwhile, the White House noted on Twitter: “Moms have always built, shaped, led, and sustained this country — and we’re committed to fighting for the safe and equitable workplaces, affordable health care, child care, and equal pay that every mom deserves. Happy Mother’s Day.”

But so-called “progressives” within the Democratic Party have created a new phrase to recognize ‘mothers,’ as noted last week by Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri, and as noted by pro-abortion group NARAL.

“Every day, Black birthing people and our babies die because our doctors don’t believe our pain. My children almost became a statistic. I almost became a statistic. I testified about my experience @OversightDems today. Hear us. Believe us. Because for so long, nobody has,” Bush noted on Twitter Thursday along with a video clip of her giving congressional testimony.

NARAL noted on Twitter: “When we talk about birthing people, we’re being inclusive. It’s that simple. We use gender neutral language when talking about pregnancy, because it’s not just cis-gender women that can get pregnant and give birth. Reproductive freedom is for *every* body.”

Others pushed back on the nonsensical phrase, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who mocked it on social media.

“Happy Birthing People’s Day!” he tweeted with a graphic showing the word “Mother’s” having been erased and replaced with “Birthing People’s.”

Despite Pelosi’s use of the traditional phrase for Mother’s Day in her Sunday statement, the California Democrat has given in to her party’s extreme left when it comes to gender-related language.

The rules package for the 117th Congress, which she introduced in early January ahead of the new session along with Rep. James McGovern (D-Mass.), chairman of the Rules Committee, sought to “honor all gender identities” through modification of gender pronouns and references to family relations in drafting rules.

According to a statement from McGovern at the time, the changes require that “pronouns and familial relationships in the House rules to be gender neutral or removes references to gender, as appropriate, to ensure we are inclusive of all Members, Delegates, Resident Commissioners and their families – including those who are nonbinary.”

Additionally, gendered terms were altered as well, including changing the nautical term “seamen” to “seafarers,” “chairman” to “chair,” and “submit his or her resignation” to “resigns.”

Also, terms like “man,” “woman,” “mother” and “son” have been stricken from rules language as well. They have been changed to “parent, child, sibling, spouse, or parent-in-law,” among others.

“Thanks to the leadership of Chairman McGovern and our Members, Democrats have crafted a package of unprecedented, bold reforms, which will make the House more accountable, transparent and effective in our work to meet the needs of the American people,” Pelosi said in a statement praising the changes.

Members can still refer to and use gender-specific terms when speaking on the House floor.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) called the language changes “stupid.”
