Just days after Disneyland reopened following more than a year of lockdown, leftists are crying foul over the Snow White attraction as she receives “true love’s kiss” from her fairytale prince “without consent.”
Disney announced via their website, and then on video, that Snow White’s Enchanted Wish ride whisks those on board into the magical story via a wooden mining cart as they accompany the princess who is fleeing the evil queen.
“Begin your fairytale journey in the cozy cottage of the Seven Dwarfs, then visit dazzling mines filled with glowing gems. Soon you’ll be riding into the Queen’s sorcery chamber and discovering a magic mirror just as Snow White bites into a poisoned apple!” the description online touts. “When all looks lost, will Snow White find her own happily ever after?”
The ride has been upgraded with LED back-lighting, new music, laser projections, animation, and new scenes. In one, Snow White dances, and in another, you see the evil queen’s collection of spell books and bubbling potions.

“The Snow White attraction has such a rich history,” Kim Irvine, creative executive for Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney Imagineering, gushed in a statement. “We wanted to take into account the beautiful scenic work that has always existed and retell the story in a special way. We believe guests will enjoy this sweet storyline in a stunning experience.”
Not everyone was enamored with the storyline. The grand finale featuring “true love’s kiss” between Snow White and her prince drew harsh criticism from the San Francisco Gate: “The new grand finale of Snow White’s Enchanted Wish is the moment when the Prince finds Snow White asleep under the Evil Queen’s spell and gives her “true love’s kiss” to release her from the enchantment,” the outlet reported. “A kiss he gives to her without her consent, while she’s asleep, which cannot possibly be true love if only one person knows it’s happening.”
“Haven’t we already agreed that consent in early Disney movies is a major issue? That teaching kids that kissing, when it hasn’t been established if both parties are willing to engage, is not OK? ” the media outlet posited.
“It’s hard to understand why the Disneyland of 2021 would choose to add a scene with such old-fashioned ideas of what a man is allowed to do to a woman, especially given the company’s current emphasis on removing problematic scenes from rides like Jungle Cruise and Splash Mountain. Why not re-imagine an ending in keeping with the spirit of the movie and Snow White’s place in the Disney canon, but that avoids this problem?” it added.

It’s not the first time the Snow White kiss scene has drawn criticism from the left. In 2018, Kazue Muta, who is a professor at Osaka University in Japan, compared kissing a sleeping woman to sexual assault on an unconscious person. The feminist accusingly stated that the stories of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty “promote sexual violence.”
“When you think rationally about ‘Snow White’ and ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ that tell of a “princess being woken up by the kiss of a prince,” they are describing sexual assault on an unconscious person,” Muta tweeted. “You might think I’m ruining the fantasy of it all, but these stories are promoting sexual violence and I would like everyone to be aware of it.”
This is yet another storyline by Disney’s theme park that is causing distress among woke leftists. The company received intense blowback for “negative depictions” of indigenous people featured in The Jungle Cruise attraction and for the Splash Mountain attraction’s ties to the 1946 film “Song of the South.”
Bowing to pressure from progressives, the Jungle Cruise had some of its scenes replaced and Splash Mountain was to be re-themed after the 2009 animated film “The Princess and the Frog.” That movie stars a black female lead.
Disney+ has also started labeling “offensive content” on certain episodes of The Muppets and movies such as the Swiss Family Robinson, The Aristocats, Peter Pan, and Dumbo.
Online, people aggressively defended the Snow White ride. One commenter stated: “Wow! Quite possibly the stupidest article I have ever read. Seriously, can the woke liberal media get any dumber.” Another snarked: “It is a fairy tale, who cares, stop making mountains out of molehills.”
