‘They’ll save America’: Photo of pensive Trump and DeSantis at Mar-a-Lago event stirs hope

It’s been quite a while since a single photo stirred up so much fuss as has the photo of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis huddling with former President Donald Trump at a Palm Beach County Lincoln Day fundraising dinner.

As the saying goes, hope springs eternal and the two Republican leaders left folks with images of 2024 dancing in their heads — the real question being who would be joining whose ticket?

“They’ll save America,” tweeted Human Events’ Ian Miles Cheong — no pressure here right?

It not that the two men lack the ability to save the country from the progressive left onslaught, it’s more about whether America will allow them to so.

The dinner took place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort on Saturday night, and included former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as well. Along with Trump and DeSantis, he’s seen as a potential 2024 GOP presidential nominee contender.

The late Rush Limbaugh’s longtime producer Bo Snerdley, whose real name is James Golden, was the event’s master of ceremonies. “We love this man!” Golden said, as the crowded room of about 500 attendees gave Trump a rousing standing ovation.

Republican state Rep. Anthony Sabatini, a lawmaker cut from the Trump cloth who is running for Congress in 2022, shared video of the reception.

And while there was plenty of fuss over Trump and DeSantis being seen together at the event, Newsmax journalist John Cardillo pointed out that it was very likely they would both be at the annual event.

Besides, they reportedly played a round of golf together just last weekend.

In another video shared by Sabitini, Trump was seen posing with supporters — a clip that had the liberal media frothing at the mouth over because there wasn’t a mask in sight.

Freedom came calling early in the Sunshine State, thanks to a Republican governor with the wherewithal to lead.

Cheong was quick to propose an interesting idea — than being that Trump may have some interest/motivation is running as the number two on a ticket with DeSantis to focus on “big picture ideas.”

“Putin did that. It worked,” he noted.

According  to Politico’s DC Playbook, Trump has privately told advisers that if he runs again, he wants DeSantis as his running mate.

Of course, should Trump decide not to run again, he’d certainly find himself in the role of kingmaker given his huge following, with a Republican presidential nominee having to kiss the proverbial ring.

Newsweek reported in late March that DeSantis led a poll of potential GOP nominees for 2024 if Trump is not in the picture. The governor drew 17%, compared to 16% from his closest competitor, former Vice President Mike Pence, who had 16%.

With hope on the horizon, here’s a sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
