Texas Sen. Ted Cruz believes he knows why former House Speaker John Boehner, a since-retired Republican, felt compelled to suddenly blurt out “Ted Cruz, go f–k yourself” while recording the audiobook version of his upcoming memoir.

During an exclusive interview with The Daily Caller this weekend, the Texas lawmaker first jokingly speculated that Boehner, who has a history of alcohol abuse, had had too much to drink that day.

Obviously he had too much wine that day already. I think he was probably recording at 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning, so obviously he had too much wine that day already,” he quipped.

Though it was meant as a joke, it appears he was spot-on:

But getting serious, Cruz then delved into the “swamp” mindset that had made Boehner hate him so dearly.

Listen:

“Look, I don’t get it, but this guy is a little unhinged. Here’s the weird thing. In my entire life, I don’t think I’ve spoken 50 words to John Boehner. I don’t know the guy. He was an aloof ‘swamp creature’ when I arrived in the Senate. He was Speaker of the House. He was in bed, figuratively speaking, with every lobbyist in town,” Cruz said.

Meanwhile, Boehner showed “no interest” in working with or talking to actual conservatives. And so when actual conservatives began to obtain real power, he snapped.

“You know what I think it is? He’s mad at me because, when I arrived in 2012, I began meeting with conservatives both in the Senate and the House and encouraging conservatives to stand up and fight for something — let’s actually honor the promises we made to the voters, let’s deliver on what we did,” the Texas lawmaker explained.

And I think I encouraged some House conservatives to stand up. Boehner didn’t like that. He’s furious, and to be honest, House conservatives standing up cost him his leadership. At the end of the day, he was tossed out for being a vestige of the corrupt Washington ‘swamp.‘”

This is true.

“John Boehner, the speaker of the House of Representatives, will resign from Congress next month, he announced on Friday, in a stunning move that follows intense pressure from conservatives in the House,” The Guardian reported on Sept. 25th, 2015.

“House conservatives, many of them members of the so-called Freedom Caucus, were again moving against Boehner in recent weeks amid a battle over federal funding for the women’s health organization Planned Parenthood.”

Being as he was a “swamp creature,” Boehner was too scared to defund Planned Parenthood because he knew the bill wouldn’t pass the then-Democrat-controlled Senate or White House, thus triggering a government shutdown.

Predictably, he wound up caving to Democrat interests and cutting a deal with then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi days before his planned retirement.

Ever since around that time, Boehner’s been relentlessly trash-talking Cruz.

In an interview just this week with CBS News, he unironically accused Cruz of being an unprincipled, attention-seeking grifter.

“Perfect symbol, you know, of getting elected, making a lot of noise, draw a lot of attention to yourself, raise a lot of money, which means you’re gonna go make more noise, raise more money,” he said of the Texas lawmaker.

He added that while he doesn’t like to “beat anyone up,” he’d make an exception for “that jerk.”

Listen:

According to Cruz, Boehner even directed an insult at him on the back of his upcoming memoir, “Boehner: On The House.”

“It is fairly amusing that this book he has, which doesn’t seem to be selling very well, the lead quote on the back is a different, profane insult that he directs at me. So he seems to have a bit of an obsession. I’ll say I’m not really sorry to see him go,” he said to The Daily Caller.

A screenshot on Amazon of the back of Boehner’s book contains this quote about Cruz: “There is nothing more dangerous than a reckless asshole who thinks he is smarter than everyone else.”

It was reportedly in preparing the audiobook version of this memoir that Boehner said the “go f–k yourself” remark.

When asked by The Daily Caller whether he ever intends to return the favor and write a book that contains insults about Boehner, Cruz– the alleged attention-seeking grifter who’s a “jerk” — said naw.

“I don’t anticipate writing a fortune cookie about him,” were his exact words.

Or translated into the language of urchins, “Bye, Felicia!”
