It appears more and more likely that the Biden administration, which has had no issues promoting boycotts against the U.S. state of Georgia, will not be pursuing a boycott against the genocidal Chinese Communist Party.
Speaking Sunday on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” Secretary of State Anthony Blinken dismissed the notion of boycotting the 2022 Beijing Olympics as too “premature.”
“[W]e’re not there yet. This is a year or so before the Olympics. We’re not focused on a boycott. What we are focused on is talking, consulting closely with our allies and partners, listening to them, listening to concerns. But that’s premature,” he said.
When asked by host Chuck Todd how the administration justifies “doing business with China or any country that you believe is committing genocide,” Blinken added that while it’s important to “bring the world together” to condemn China “with one voice,” America must still “deal with China” in areas where U.S. “interests are implicated.”
From the sounds of it, he’d used “premature” as a synonym for “never going to happen.”

The remarks came four days after White House press secretary Jen Psaki said straight-up that the administration hasn’t been discussing/considering a boycott.
“Our position on the 2022 Olympics has not changed. We have not discussed and are not discussing any joint boycott with allies and partners,” she said.
“We of course consult closely with allies and partners at all levels to define our common concerns and establish a shared approach, but there is no discussion underway of a change in our plans regarding the Beijing Olympics from the United States’ point of view.”

“Those remarks came a day after State Department spokesperson Ned Price mistakenly suggested that a boycott could be in the works.
“It is something that we certainly wish to discuss and it is certainly something that we understand that a coordinated approach will be not only in our interest, but also in the interest of our allies and partners. So this is one of the issues that is on the agenda, both now and going forward,” he told reporters.
For his part, Blinken confirmed Sunday that the administration is certainly talking to its foreign allies about how to handle China — though the idea of simply boycotting the Olympics clearly isn’t on the table.
“We need to take actually concrete actions to make sure, for example, that none of our companies are providing China with things that they can use to repress populations, including the Uyghur population,” he said.
Yet the last time China hosted the Olympics in 2008, it earned $146 in profit from the endeavor, according to Reuters, raising the question of why the administration has no problems with the CCP again earning revenue from the hard work of American athletes.
This question seems particularly relevant given the Biden administration’s vocal support of boycotts against Georgia for the faux crime of passing a law that tightened its voting laws to strengthen election integrity.

Writing for The Hill on Friday, Joe Concha noted that President Joe Biden has set a precedent by supporting the boycotts: “If he disagrees with a local or state law, he will ‘strongly support’ boycotts or outright elimination of events in that area.”
And so what does that say about his administration’s refusal to boycott the Olympics, given that, besides persecuting Uighur Muslims, China is also “the origin of a deadly pandemic that has killed more than 550,000 Americans in just over a year.”
“[W]hat kind of message does it send to all of those businesses in the Atlanta area that no longer have a much-needed All-Star Game after the pandemic that came from China crippled businesses for more than a year?” Concha wrote.
“Overall, Cobb County is expected to lose more than $100 million in business with All-Star weekend shipped to Denver. In a related story, metro Atlanta is 51 percent Black, while Denver is less than 10 percent Black.”
Meanwhile, the Biden administration won’t boycott the 2022 Olympics, despite reports that Uighur Muslims are being subjected to “systemic torture, rape and population control.”

According to a human rights report released by Biden’s own State Department in March, China is essentially committing “genocide” against millions of Muslims.
“Genocide and crimes against humanity occurred during the year against the predominantly Muslim Uyghurs and other ethnic and religious minority groups in Xinjiang,” the report states.
“These crimes were continuing and include: the arbitrary imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty of more than one million civilians; forced sterilization, coerced abortions, and more restrictive application of China’s birth control policies; rape; torture of a large number of those arbitrarily detained; forced labor; and the imposition of draconian restrictions on freedom of religion or belief, freedom of expression, and freedom of movement.”
