‘Will his body lie in US Rotunda, too?’ Pelosi, Schumer downplay death of Capitol cop killed by Farrakhan supporter

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer honored Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick by allowing his remains to lie in state, but they have not indicated whether they will do so for another officer killed Friday by a follower of Louis Farrakhan.

Three weeks after Sicknick’s death, first reported as a result of being struck in the head by a fire extinguisher though a subsequent autopsy found no evidence of blunt head trauma, Pelosi and Schumer arranged to have his remains lie in the Capitol Rotunda, becoming just the fifth American to be so honored.

Also, a bill led by Pelosi that passed overwhelmingly last month awarded Congressional Gold Medals to Capitol Police, DC Metropolitan Police, and other law enforcement who responded to the Capitol riot.

But thus far, Pelosi, Schumer, and other top Democrats have been largely silent regarding the Friday death of Capitol Police officer William “Billy” Evans, an 18-year vet, by 25-year-old Noah Green, a follower of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, a noted anti-Semite. According to reports, Green rammed his car into Evans and another officer near the Capitol Complex’s North Barricade, where members of Congress and their aides enter and exit.

Some see politics at work.

“A Capitol Police officer died on January 6th and it’s all the media has talked about for three months. A Capitol Police officer died yesterday and the media already forgot about it,” Human Events co-publisher Will Chamberlain tweeted Saturday.

The Capitol riot was widely blamed on former President Donald Trump by Democrats and left-leaning media figures, many of whom accused his supporters of being neo-Nazis and white supremacists, a characterization which is false.

Meanwhile, downplaying Evans’ death is being viewed by the right as intentional because of Green’s reported ties to a figure, Farrakhan, who has a well-documented history of bigotry though he’s respected by the Democratic left.

“My faith is one of the only things that has been able to carry me through these times and my faith is centered on the belief of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan as Jesus, the Messiah, the final divine reminder in our midst,” Green wrote on Facebook March 17. “I consider him my spiritual father.”

Shortly after the attack, left-wing pundits and media types took to social media to, conservatives say, deflect from uncomfortable details.

“Imagine if today’s Capitol attacker had gotten out of his care not with a knife but with an AR-15. Imagine the police death toll. Just imagine. #guncontrol,” wrote MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan on Twitter.

Progressive podcaster John Iadarola added: “They love to pretend, in the abstract, that weapon choice doesn’t matter, but I doubt even these craven liars are willing to own up to their lie in any particular attack.”

“Heartbroken to learn another CP was killed while protecting the Capitol. My thoughts and prayers go out to the officer’s family and the entire Capitol Police force. The death toll would have been worse if the assailant had an AR-15 instead of a knife,” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), a member of the far-left “Squad,” added.

Ties between several top Democrats and Farrakhan began to surface after the attack as well.

“House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C., shared a stage with Farrakhan in 2011,” Fox News reported Friday.

“Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill, praised Farrakhan in 2018 as ‘an outstanding human being’ who ‘does outstanding things.’ Davis also said he wasn’t bothered by Farrakhan’s position on ‘the Jewish question,’” the outlet noted further.

Freshman Georgia Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock has also praised Farrakhan, noting in 2018 that the Nation of Islam’s “voice has been important for the development of Black theology.”

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) also has long ties to Farrakhan.
