Four former presidents appear in vaccine campaign ad, absent of the man who largely made it happen

The man who oversaw the development and initial distribution of the coronavirus vaccine, former President Donald Trump, is nowhere to be seen in a new federal government ad/PSA about that same vaccine.

Instead, the ad produced by the Ad Council, a nonprofit that creates PSAs for the government, features every living former president except for Trump.

Never mind that even The New York Times, a fairly far-left paper, has finally given Trump credit for Operation Warp Speed.

Called “It’s Up To You,” the ad shows former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter — as well as their wives — promoting the coronavirus vaccine that was produced under the Trump administration.

The PSA also shows photos of each president and first lady getting their vaccine shot.

In a press release, the Ad Council said the “project” began in December 2020 while Trump was in office as an effort “to educate and empower Americans with information about the COVID-19 vaccines.”

“We’re grateful to Presidents Obama, Bush, Clinton and Carter and the First Ladies for coming together in this historic moment to encourage Americans to get the most accurate information on the vaccines so they can make the right decisions for themselves and their families,” Ad Council president and CEO Lisa Sherman said in the press release.

It’s not clear why former President Trump and his wife, former first lady Melania Trump, were neither featured nor even mentioned in the ad.

One possibility is that they were never asked to appear:

Another possibility is that they refused to appear.

It’s hard to tell either way because neither the Ad Council’s press release nor write-ups by the mainstream press contain clear-cut answers.

“The release of the vaccination PSAs comes after several news outlets reported this month that Donald and Melania Trump received their coronavirus vaccinations privately at the White House in January,” Politico reported.

“Asked whether Donald Trump was invited to participate in the new videos, a spokesperson for the Ad Council reiterated that the project started last year and that one of the videos was filmed on Inauguration Day, when Trump was not in attendance.”

To be clear, the “one” video that was filmed on Inauguration Day as part of this “project” was NOT the vaccine video.

Rather, it was the video below that shows Obama, Bush and Clinton sharing some facts about the coronavirus vaccine:

“We just learned last week that President Trump did get vaccinated and were so pleased he advised Americans to ‘go get your shot,'” the Ad Council’s spokesperson added in a statement to Politico.

The former president’s spokespeople also had no answers.

“Spokespeople for Trump’s post-presidential office did not immediately return a request for comment on the videos or whether he was offered an opportunity to appear in them,” according to Politico.

The question of whether Trump should or should not have been offered a chance to participate has inspired a little bit of a debate among leftists.

One argument is that he should have been included in the ad because his voters are allegedly the least likely to pursue a coronavirus vaccine. But another argument is that it’s good he wasn’t included in the ad because he deserves to be ostracized.

What’s been alleged is that Trump had displayed little interest last year in the idea of rolling out former presidents to promote the vaccine.

What’s known for certain is that the former president is hellbent on ensuring the American people don’t forget whose administration jump-started the process of developing and distributing a vaccine.

“I hope everyone remembers when they’re getting the COVID-19 (often referred to as the China Virus) Vaccine, that if I wasn’t President, you wouldn’t be getting that beautiful ‘shot’ for 5 years, at best, and probably wouldn’t be getting it at all. I hope everyone remembers!” he said in a statement Wednesday.

It’s hard to see why he would have turned down the offer to participate in the PSA given this strong desire to be credited for developing the vaccine.
