Biden’s military: Maternity flight suits? What about equipping flights with cribs, baby food and diapers?

Monday in “Biden’s World,” President Joe Biden announced that his administration is focused on ostensibly improving the military by making it more friendly to women.

Some of the ongoing projects, according to the president, include updating the military’s requirements for hairstyles and designing “maternity flight suits.”

Some of it’s relatively straightforward work where we’re making good progress: designing body armor that fits women properly, tailoring combat uniforms for women, creating maternity flight suits, updating requirements for their hairstyles,” he said.

And and some of it is going to take an intensity of purpose and mission to really change the culture and habits that cause women to leave the military,” he added.

The remarks were made on International Women’s Day during the same speech in which the president forgot the name of his defense secretary and was forced therefore to describe him simply as “the guy who runs that outfit over there.”

The part about “maternity flight suits” raised some questions.

Look:

However, the plan to develop maternity suits actually precedes Biden’s presidency.

“In September 2019 the Air Force updated its policy to reduce restrictions on pregnant aviators who perform flight duties and have uncomplicated pregnancies. This update allows many women the choice to keep performing flight duties during their pregnancy, maintain currency, and prevent postpartum re-qualification training,” according to a news briefing from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

To make this possible, the military began “the development of a novel one-piece maternity flight suit for female aviators that will accommodate them throughout the entire pregnancy. It is being designed with extra fabric in front and adjustment tabs on the side to allow for growth. Currently, the uniform is undergoing a number of tests, to include burn and extended wear testing.”

So the idea isn’t to provide pregnant women with protection so that they may be dropped into enemy territory during wartime, as some have suggested, but rather to make it so that pregnant women can continue performing regular flight duties.

The part of Biden’s speech about “requirements for their hairstyles” also provoked some concern and irritation.

Look:

The concern over hairstyles is apparently rooted in racial grievance.

As reported by Military.com in December, the issue exploded around that time, “with men and women alike calling for change and describing what they view as broken and antiquated policies that put unnecessary burdens on women who serve.”

“Nicole Kirschmann, a career Army civilian, said on her personal Twitter account that she believed the service should allow women to wear ponytails and take into consideration different textures and types of hair,” according to Military.com.

“Having ‘grooming standards that show sensitivity to the cultural and ethnic diversity already present in our Army would go a long way in ‘walking the talk’ about diversity and inclusion,” she reportedly said in a statement.

And with someone who’s obsessed with so-called “diversity” now in office, it’s no surprise that the military is now focusing on hairstyles and nail polish versus on strength. And yes, that’s hairstyles AND nail polish.

“Female soldiers can let their hair down, and flash a little nail color under new rules being approved by the Army. … Army leaders announced Tuesday that they are loosening restrictions on various grooming and hairstyle rules, as service leaders try to address longstanding complaints, particularly from women,” HuffPost reported in late January.

“The changes, which also expand allowances for earrings and hair highlights and dyes, are particularly responsive to women of various ethnicities, and will allow greater flexibility for braids, twists, cornrows and other styles more natural for their hair.”
