House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy triggered rage from leftists late Friday by posting a video to Twitter of himself reading Dr. Seuss’s classic children’s book “Green Eggs and Ham” in protest of what many on the right see as a modern-day book burning.
The harmless stunt was motivated by multiple Dr. Seuss books not only being dropped by publishers over alleged racism but also being banned from being sold. Mainstream institutions are essentially acting like his books are a Schedule 1 drug.
“I still like Dr. Seuss, so I decided to read Green Eggs and Ham. RT if you still like him too!” McCarthy wrote as a caption to his tweet.
As of Saturday morning, the tweet boasted almost 20,000 likes but also nearly 18,000 stunningly angry, sometimes outright hateful comments.

His left-wing critics responded by arguing that, because other events of relevance are occurring at the moment — the coronavirus pandemic, for instance — McCarthy shouldn’t be drawing attention to contemporary book burning.
Observe (*Language warning):
519,064 Americans have died from Coronavirus.
And you are reading a fucking children’s book.
Because your party stands for nothing.
And this performative bullshit is all you know how to do.— Jo (@JoJoFromJerz) March 6, 2021
@GOPLeader You still bitching about Dr Seuss while people are dying of covid you dumb prick? I hate that you have an Irish name #COVID19 #DrSeuss

I wish you cared about real kids as much as you care about a fictional kids book. Maybe then you would try to pass the covid relief bill, instead of stalling and obstructing. If you aren’t part of the solution, then YOU are the problem.— Donna McCraw (@luv2run) March 6, 2021
maybe you people could concentrate on police brutality against minorities, or the COVID Relief bill, or the 500,000 dead Americans from COVID, or the Jan 6th attack on our Capitol..you know, issues that REALLY matter..instead of worrying about monuments or Mr potato head or Suess

When a fvcking fictional character gathers more outrage from you clowns than
*535,000 coronavirus deaths,
*a noose on the Capitol steps *the attempted overthrow of the gov’t
*the murder of a police officer
*the threat to murder elected officials.— BrwnLady ❤️🇺🇸🙏🏾🐕🐘 (@WACVetBklyn) March 6, 2021
Notice how they tried slamming the Republican lawmaker for his party’s opposition to the ostensible coronavirus relief bill being bandied about by Democrats.
Their logic — or the lack thereof — is that because Republicans oppose the bill, they don’t care about children. Never mind that it’s the left’s beloved teachers’ unions that critics say are hurting children by refusing to return to school and do their jobs.
The leftist bellyachers also drew attention to the Jan 6th. riot at the U.S. Capitol. The left remains fixated on the riot, as well as the alleged threat of domestic terrorism. It’s an “alleged” threat because all the fear-mongering has proved baseless thus far.
“Twice in the last six weeks, warnings were issued about imminent, grave threats to public safety posed by the same type of right-wing extremists who rioted at the Capitol on January 6. And both times, these warnings ushered in severe security measures only to prove utterly baseless,” journalist Glenn Greenwald noted in a SubStack post on Friday.
Yet as of Saturday, the Capitol still remained so militarized that an American might mistakenly think they’re living under a military junta versus in what is ostensibly the freest nation on Earth.

Of course, this doesn’t matter to leftists. Nor does contemporary book burning. It seems nothing matters to them more than raging against their Republican enemies.

If I were a child and heard Congressman Kevin McCarthy reading Dr. Seuss, I would run away screaming. If I were a child I would cancel story time myself.
But seriously, Republicans have absolutely no policy agenda except white grievance. They are not worthy adversaries. pic.twitter.com/0yzXVaWtBS

Notice how the latter Twitter user had to bring race into it.
The only valid criticism the bellyachers had was that the specific book that McCarthy chose to read, “Green Eggs and Ham,” isn’t among those that have been banned.
However, in his defense, had he read one of the six Dr. Seuss books that have been banned — “If I Ran the Zoo,” “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,” “McElligot’s Pool,” “On Beyond Zebra!,” “Scrambled Eggs Super!,” or “The Cat’s Quizzer” — he would have probably been suspended for “hate speech.”
But alas, sadly for them, McCarthy won’t be silenced today.
