Sen. Ted Cruz was leveled online after he tweeted photos of himself helping Texans affected by last week’s historically cold winter weather.
The bitter cold froze hundreds of windmills which led to a massive days-long power outage and rolling blackouts.
The Texas Republican tweeted three photos along with the hashtag #TexasStrong after being blasted earlier in the week for taking his family to Cancun, Mexico, during the outages while the state was suffering through freezing temperatures and outages.
Cruz returned to the U.S. after only being gone a day.

Nevertheless, his charitable efforts did little to quiet criticism, though Cruz is frequently targeted by the left regardless of what he says or does.
“I’m glad someone in Ted Cruz’s Senate office finally instructed him on how to fake compassion, humanity, and creating the illusion that he cares about the people he was elected to serve,” online consultant Melissa Ryan wrote.

Others noted that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) helped raise millions in relief funds for Texans.
“@AOC has used her social media to raise more than $4 million for the people of Texas. Ted Cruz used his to share a photo op of him placing a single case of water into a car,” podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen wrote.

Cruz was heavily criticized earlier this week for taking his family to Mexico. The Texas Republican issued a statement saying that it was “obviously a mistake” to go ahead and join his family at the time, considering what was occurring in his state.
“In hindsight, I wouldn’t have done it,” Cruz told reporters, adding that no sooner than he got on the plane Wednesday he began to have second thoughts.
The AP, as well as other media outlets, noted that Cruz left the country for warmer a climate even as many Texans were still dealing with power outages and other problems related to the freak winter storm that froze a plurality of the state’s windmills, which generate about one-quarter of all power in the state.
A post-storm analysis found that while the freezing of the windmills certainly triggered the outage, other failures in the state’s grid contributed.
In a statement Thursday, Cruz said that he had been in touch with state leaders about the expected severity of the approaching storm.
“My staff and I are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas. We want our power back, our water on, and our homes warm. My team and I will continue using all our resources to keep Texans informed and safe,” he said.
He also said he accompanied his wife and daughters to Cancun after they asked to join friends on a pre-planned trip since school had been canceled for the week because of the weather.
“Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon,” he said, adding that he returned early because he understood he should be in Texas though he originally planned to remain in Mexico through the weekend.
