A Massachusetts high school football coach who was allegedly fired for questioning the critical race theory-esque, Black Lives Matter propaganda that was being forced upon the district’s students – including his daughter – is now suing the school’s administrators.
In the suit, attorneys for former Dedham High School head football coach David Flynn describe how, when he watched his daughter, who attends Dedham Middle School, participate in a remote class ostensibly about world history late last year, he heard no actual history.
“Instead, the instruction concerned issues of race, gender, stereotypes, prejudices, discrimination, and politics, among others,” the suit reads.
“In one assignment, Plaintiff’s daughter was asked to consider various ‘risk factors’ and ‘mitigating factors’ that two people – one identified as ‘white’ and the other identified as ‘black’ – purportedly might use to assess each other on a city street,” it continued.
Flynn also observed “instruction materials” that included a cartoon emoji — known as a ‘memoji’ — of his daughter’s teacher adorned in a BLM t-shirt.
Concerned about both the lack of history in his daughter’s 7th-grade world history class and her teacher’s endorsement of a political movement — a radical one, to boot — Flynn then reached out to both his daughter’s teacher and her principal, but to no avail.
“The principal responded, but Plaintiff and his wife did not feel that their concerns were addressed adequately,” according to the suit.
And so, Flynn and his wife then discussed the matter with a couple of other parents and forwarded their shared concerns to Dedham Public Schools superintendent Michael J. Welch, prompting Welch to schedule a meeting with them for Oct. 23rd.
This meeting left Flynn and his wife still feeling as if their concerns weren’t being addressed, and so, feeling fed up, they withdrew their own children from the district’s schools and penned one final letter to three Dedham School Committee members complaining about Welch’s refusal to compromise.
“The Superintendent has had the opportunity to make sure the Dedham teachers conduct themselves as professionals and to teach the courses objectively and without biased opinions. He chose not to,” they reportedly wrote.
“I explained to him that if the teacher teaches the course objectively and removes the BLM logo from the class, people will soon get over the fact that the class was purposely created without notifying parents and without having a visible course curriculum, syllabus and learning objective. Apparently, it does not mean much to him that the Dedham Public School System is losing two wonderful students,” they added.
The letter was reportedly also shared with other parents.

Now fast-forward to Jan. 20th, when, after being led to believe that his contract would be renewed as usual, Flynn was pulled into Welch’s office, handed a copy of the letter he’d sent in October and asked if he’d shared it with other concerned parents.
After Flynn answered that he had indeed shared it, Welch terminated him on the spot on the grounds that the district was allegedly “going in a different direction” with its football program. Yet moments later, Welch released a letter to parents allegedly advising that Flynn had been terminated “because he has expressed significant philosophical differences with the direction, goals, and values of the school district.”
It’s not clear what “philosophical differences” have to do with football coaching. Nor is it clear why Welch chose to describe legitimate concerns about students being propagandized with radical BLM propaganda as a mere philosophical difference.
BLM is seen by many as an extremely radical movement responsible for dozens of deaths and hundreds of acts of violence.
Flynn’s suit, which was filed by the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, asks for damages to be awarded because of the “loss of earning, emotional distress, loss of reputation, and harassment” that Flynn and his family have experienced as a result of their First Amendment rights being assailed by the district.
“Cancel culture has come to high school football. Coach Flynn was fired for exercising his constitutional rights to object as a citizen and father to an extremist and racially inflammatory school curriculum in his child’s history class,” Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said in a statement.
Cancel culture and radical propaganda have, in fact, come to all aspects of the academic world, as has been documented time and time again by filmmaker, writer, and researcher Christopher Rufo of the Discovery Institute.
For months now, Rufo has been highlighting case after case after case of of schools across the country promoting Marxist propaganda to their students:
- Example 1: “Whistleblower docs show outright pro-communist propaganda taught to fifth graders”
- Example 2: “Third graders reportedly made to ‘deconstruct’ their identities, rank themselves according to power and privilege”
- Example 3: “‘This is the answer’: New legal alliance to fight critical race theory in courts gets Megyn Kelly’s stamp of approval”
What’s rare is to see anybody, particularly parents, fighting back.
As noted by journalist Megyn Kelly last year, the only true “answer” to this dilemma is indeed “the law”:
THIS IS THE ANSWER. THE LAW. These indoctrination sessions are unlawful.Studies have shown they create *more,* not less, racism.
Good for you @realchrisrufo. https://t.co/JtHOkGWaCi— Megyn Kelly (@megynkelly) January 21, 2021
Meanwhile, Flynn’s former students have been protesting his dismissal and demanding that he be rehired:
