Trump attorney unloads on ‘bloodthirsty’ CBS host in a viral tongue-lashing for the record books

Former President Donald Trump’s defense attorney Michael van der Veen tore into the “bloodthirsty” media during a post-impeachment trial interview with CBS News anchor Lana Zak.

The exchange went viral for all the right reasons!

The interview got off to a bad start when Zak noted that van der Veen said there was no “insurrection” at the Capitol, before adding that he “seemingly admitted that there was, in fact, an insurrection” in his closing argument, with the anchor stressing that he used the word.

“No, no, you didn’t understand the case,” the attorney interrupted. “I used the word ‘insurrection’ in my closing argument when quoting the charging document.”

“What happened at the Capitol on Jan. 6 is absolutely horrific. But what happened at the Capitol during this trial was not too far away from that,” he said. “The prosecutors in this case doctored evidence. They did not investigate this case, and when they had to come to the court of the Senate to put their case on, because they hadn’t done any investigation, they doctored evidence. It was absolutely shocking when we discovered it.”

Van der Veen added that the American people “should not be putting up with this.”

In detailing the evidence he was referencing, Zak downplayed it — at least, in the eyes of van der Veen, the anchor did.

“To be clear for our viewers, what you’re talking about now is a checkmark that’s a verification on Twitter that did not exist on that particular tweet, a 2020 that should have actually read 2021, and the selective editing, you say, of the tapes,” she said.

“Wait, wait, wait, wait. That’s not enough for you?” the attorney shot back. “That’s not enough for you?”

They went back and forth, with Zak feigning innocence, insisting that she wasn’t trying to pass judgement, while van der Veen stressed, “It’s not okay to doctor a little evidence!”

Zak protested a little too aggressively, continually talking over her guest. When finally given the chance to speak, van der Veen unloaded on the media.

“The media has to start telling the right story in this country,” he said. “The media is trying to divide this country. You are bloodthirsty for ratings, and as such, you’re asking questions now that are already set up with a fact pattern. I can’t believe that you would ask me a question indicating that it’s alright to doctor just a little bit of evidence. There’s more stuff that we uncovered that they doctored, to be frank with you.”

He pointed to the “unconscionable” actions of the House impeachment managers and said the media should be reporting on that in a “straight way.”

“Your coverage is so slanted; it’s got to stop. You guys have got to stop,” van der Veen said.

He again called Zak out for downplaying the evidence he spoke of,  assuring her that what they did “was not a small thing.”

“And the media shouldn’t be letting them get away with it, either,” he said. “I’m tired of the biased media, on both sides, left and the right. What this country wants, what this country needs is for this country to come together… the media wants to tell their narrative, rather than just telling it like it is.”

Again, Zak defended her actions, calling her remarks a “fair question.”

Fully agitated, van der Veen disagreed and told the CBS anchor she needs to “live by your words.”

“The media has to start living by the truth and not try to create a narrative,” he added.

Zak moved to bring the interview to an end, and a disgusted van der Veen wasted no time ripping the microphone from his lapel and walking away.

The smug look from Zak personified the image much of the public has of the media existing in an elitist bubble above the great unwashed American citizenry.

As for the attorney’s demeanor, he was forced to hire private security after radicals vandalized his Philadelphia-area home by smashing windows and spray-painting the word “traitor” on the driveway.

Trump-hating protesters also showed up at his law office chanting “When van der Veen lies, what do you do? Convict. Convict.”

“My home was attacked. To answer your question, my entire family, my business, my law firm are under siege right now,” he told Fox News.
