Gutfeld rails against media over impeachment: ‘Undermined democracy for four freaking years!’

Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld, co-host of “The Five,” railed against the media in a rant on Tuesday’s Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, including “a few anchors” on his own network — see Chris Wallace, for starters.

On Tuesday’s program, Gutfeld responded to wide criticism of Trump’s impeachment defense team, saying the reason they “don’t look that great is because they don’t have to.”

“There’s nothing here,” he insisted. “If the Dems had an actual good case why did they have to lie to America over it? Why did their video not include the part where Trump says this is a patriotic and peaceful protest. Why did they leave that part out? If you’re so confident in your case, why deceive us? The truth should be on their side.”

Gutfeld stressed that the jury of U.S. senators isn’t exactly an impartial panel, saying “this is an impeachment over speech and the definition of words.”

“Everything that you hear in the accusations is 100% subjective,” he said. “What is the definition of incendiary speech? You don’t want the left in charge of that. What this is about is exactly what it was about last year, the three P’s: Punishment, politics, and publicity.”

He suggested impeachment was serving as a convenient distraction for Democrats from focusing on the pandemic.

“Forgive me if I’m jaded, after Portland and Seattle, Kenosha, Chicago, Atlanta, SoHo and other targets of mass violence that the currently outraged that you see right now ignored,” Gutfeld ranted. “I hold all violence in contempt, and I will not be lectured by hypocrites who favor one mob or the other. If you don’t see all violence as bad, you are not worth my time!”

“These people pretend they are concerned about the abuse of power, they are impeaching a private citizen over speech, a citizen who is proxy for 75 million voters,” he continued. “It’s not about Trump, it’s about you. These are the same people who ignored violence that is a physical proxy for their activist language and now they are participating in a circus with a predetermined outcome for failure as people die from Covid.”

It was at this point that Gutfeld turned his sights on the media over the trumped-up claim that Trump was undermining democracy.

“So before you say that Trump undermined democracy by questioning the validity of an election, if you believe that is true, then every anchor on MSNBC, every anchor on CNN, and a few anchors here at Fox News who also undermined democracy for four freaking years with the Russian hoax, they’re guilty too,” he said. “Once you open this door, my friend, everyone is guilty.”

Gutfeld was less than impressed when co-host Dana Perino noted that the Senate had just voted that Trump’s impeachment trial was constitutional — six Republicans joined with Democrats in a 56-44 vote.

“Hey, I’m just reporting the news,” Perino said. “I didn’t vote.”
