Cuomo presses AOC on claim she was too afraid of Republicans to show up for Biden inauguration

Evidently, someone just noticed that Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was a no-show at President Biden’s inauguration. She claims she decided not to attend out of fear of her own Republican colleagues in Congress.

AOC appeared on Cuomo Prime on Thursday where she attempted to explain why she chose not to attend the inauguration. Part of her reasoning had to do with attending a union strike for grocery workers in the Bronx. She claimed the other part was because she still feels threatened by her congressional peers.

“Why? Do you hate Joe Biden?” Cuomo joked.

“No,” Ocasio-Cortez laughed, before going on to explain that a majority of the produce in NYC comes through the Hunts Point Market, and she wanted to make it a point to show up and support them.

“These workers that have been risking their lives every single day this past year in the pandemic, who are loading the trucks, getting this produce, putting food on our tables are struggling to feed their own kids,” she said. “They’re asking for something very simple in a time when the grocery industry and the delivery industry are experiencing record profits as we all stay home during COVID, and they’re asking for a dollar raise — a one dollar raise from a company that enjoys plenty of public tax benefits and giveaways, and it is frankly shocking and embarrassing that there is even a question here in giving these folks a buck an hour raise.”

“I think we also had very real security concerns,” Ocasio-Cortez opined. She added, “We still don’t yet feel safe around other members of congress.” Some might say that works both ways but it is still an insult to President Biden. One that probably won’t be forgotten.

“How much is ‘we’?” asked Cuomo. Ocasio-Cortez responded, “I think a very considerable amount.”

Cuomo cringingly asked, “You really think colleagues of yours in Congress may do you dirty?”

“Yeah, well, one just tried to bring a gun on the floor of the House today,” Ocasio-Cortez said. She was referencing Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD), who tried to bring a concealed handgun into the House chamber Thursday. Never mind that he has a permit and carries it for protection, she saw it as some kind of personal threat.

Cuomo was like a dog with a bone and would not let it go. He pressed AOC whether she believes her colleagues are carrying for protection following the Capitol riots, or whether they truly have evil intentions.

“You think they’re bringing it in because they want to protect all of you from insurrectionists like we saw a couple weeks ago, or do you think there really is a chance that you may be the enemy?” Cuomo asked.

Ocasio-Cortez icily responded:

“The moment you bring a gun on to the House floor in violation of rules, you put everyone around you in danger. It is irresponsible. It is reckless. But beyond that, it is a violation of rules. You are openly disobeying the rules that we have established as a community, which means that you cannot be trusted to be held accountable to what we’ve decided as a community.”

“And so I don’t really care what they say their intentions are. I care what the impact of their actions are. And the impact is to put all 435 members of congress in danger. He tried to hand off his gun to another member who didn’t have a license, and any responsible gun owner knows that you don’t just hand off your gun to another individual. You have to clear it, etcetera.”

“And that just goes to show it doesn’t matter what your intention is. If you are irresponsible, if you are trying to break rules, you’re trying to sneak a firearm on to the floor of the House — I don’t care if you accidentally set it off, I don’t care if you intentionally set it off, I don’t care if you don’t set it off at all. You are endangering the lives of members of congress. It is absolutely outrageous that we even have to have this conversation.”

Allegedly the FBI is investigating Republicans in Congress to see if they had anything to do with the riot. Rep. James Clyburn (R-SC) has suggested the rioters had help from the inside. There’s been absolutely no evidence to support that claim.

“I have an unmarked office that you have got to know exactly where it is,” Clyburn told CNN. “They didn’t go to where my name was. They went where I usually hang out. That to me indicates that something untoward may have been going on.”

And Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) suggested that Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) may have helped a group of rioters scope out the Capitol in the days leading up to the attack by leading them on a tour. Boebert has denied leading any tours on the days leading up to the insurrection. Again, there has been zero evidence of this claim being true.

“Let’s bring up a vote to expel Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley from the Senate,” AOC also told Cuomo.

“We should be actually bringing justice to the members of Congress and the members of the Senate who also helped support this insurrection,” she said throwing shade at Congressional Republicans.
