Joe Biden announced Monday he has nominated San Diego Unified School District Superintendent Cindy Marten to the post of deputy secretary in the Department of Education.
And while President Trump understood how destructive the left’s critical race theory is, a campaign designed to bring about reparations, charging that all white people are inherently racist, Biden is at the mercy of the hard left.
Christopher Rufo, a filmmaker and the director of the Discovery Institute’s Center on Wealth & Poverty, who also writes for the urban policy magazine City Journal, called Marten “one of the most radical superintendents in the country.”
In a series of tweets, Rufo shared details from “explosive whistleblower documents” on an SDUSD training session focused on “white privilege,” and a program featuring a speaker who believes American schools are guilty of the “spirit- murdering of Black children” and that white educators must undergo “antiracist therapy.”

Rufo noted that Marten appeared to endorse the radical views of Bettina Love, an education professor at the University of Georgia.
“According to whistleblower documents, Martens personally introduced the speaker, Bettina Love, and praised her presentation about ‘spirit murder,’ ‘antiracist therapy,’ and ‘abolitionist teaching,'” he tweeted.

The whistleblower documents show that Love said “racism runs deep” in America and that blacks alone “know who America really is,” Rufo tweeted, She also claimed public schools “don’t see [blacks] as human.”
In an article shared on his website titled, “Radicals in the classroom,” Rufo said the concept of “spirit murder” is at the heart of Love’s teachings.
“In a recent article in Education Week, Love writes that public schools are guilty of ‘the spirit murdering of Black and Brown children,’ which she defines as ‘a death that is built on racism and intended to reduce, humiliate, and destroy people of color,’ he wrote. “During the presentation in San Diego, Love added that supporting Black Lives Matter is a ‘cheap symbolic’ gesture that will not stop the spirit murder of minority children in schools.”
As for Marten, she’s amped up to take her radical views national.
“I have already spoken with Secretary-designate Miguel Cardona, and I have never been more optimistic about the future of the American education system,” she said, according to Fox 5 San Diego. “I have also spoken with the San Diego Unified Board of Education to ensure a seamless transition. Everyone remains focused on providing our students with a full recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.”
She echoed that enthusiasm “to restore our education system,” on Twitter.

Citing standardized test scores, Rofo said in an article that only 37% of San Diego’s fourth-graders are proficient in reading, and only 42% are proficient in math.
“Black and Latino students perform substantially worse,” he added.
Ironically, Marten was not radical enough for the San Diego Branch of the NAACP, as a statement from the group called her appointment “troubling,” Fox 5 reported.
“Educators at all levels must have a track record of dismantling the harmful practices of Anti-Black Racism that occur in schools,” the statement said. “Cindy Marten has a historical pattern of allowing the excessive suspension and expulsion of Black students in San Diego. President-Elect Biden, with all of the qualified educators we have in our nation, this is not a good choice for healing Black students, families, and educators, nor is it a step in the right direction for repairing harm in our schools.”
The reaction to Marten’s tweet, many seemingly from parents of kids in her district, is not promising.
