Goya Foods President and CEO Robert Unanue drew the left’s ire over the summer when he dared praise President Donald Trump as an economic leader, and despite a failed attempt to cancel him, he hasn’t shied away from expressing his opinion.

Commenting on shutting down the economy as a result of the coronavirus pandemic during an appearance Friday on “Fox & Friends,” Unanue insisted that was the worst possible response.

“The problem is it’s a political year. They weaponized coronavirus. Unfortunately, they shut down this economy,” the CEO said.

“The worst thing we could do is shut down our economy, it killed our spirit,” Unanue charged. “We need a reason to get up in the morning: God, family and work. And they are taking away our spirit, they’re taking away our ability to work.”

Fox News cohost Steve Doocy noted that despite the left’s attempt to boycott Goya products the company had a banner year.

“During the pandemic — and your company has donated millions of dollars of food to food banks all across the country —  you were called to the White House to talk about the coronavirus and the response and you went,” he said.” And then people on the political left tried to cancel you with essentially a boycott, but then it turned around, people were supporting you with a buy-cott, and I understand Goya Foods has just finished your biggest, most successful year ever.”

Unanue held no punches in sharing his take on authorities — see Democrats — locking down the economy “for political gain”.

“They essentially declared martial law, I believe, in this country, shutting everything down,” he said. “It’s the worst thing we could have done just for political gain. I think it’s criminal, I think it’s immoral, to shut down this economy for this — basically political reasons.”

With Democrats now beginning to call for reopening things as Joe Biden is set to be inaugurated, there may be some validity to his assertion.

More importantly, while commenting on growing censorship in America, Unanue said that, as a nation must, we “need to move closer to God.”

“We’re one nation under God,” he said. “We’re not one nation under Twitter. We’re not one nation under Big Media or under central government — we’re trying to have media, Big Tech, control our lives, the government controls our lives.”

“And we need to not move away from God, we need to move closer to God,” Unanue continued. “They want to cancel God. They want to cancel our speech. They want to cancel our culture, our history, our liberty. They want to control us. The few controlling the many, like a bunch of sheep.”

Reiterating his point about being closer to God, the business leader said none of the people behind the efforts to control people “care about us.”

“We cannot move away from God,” Unanue insisted. “We need to love and build, not hate and destroy. Some of us want to be one nation indivisible. You can’t be indivisible without God. We have to pray, we have to have hope, and we have to move closer to God. Otherwise, it’s not a pretty picture.”
