A Georgia election official came under fire for “playing pundit” and offering election projections while votes from two critical Senate runoff races in the state were being tallied.

Gabriel Sterling, Georgia’s voting system implementation manager, raised eyebrows during a CNN appearance and on his Twitter account as he seemed to be calling the runoffs for the Democrats before the night was over.

Sterling, who has continued to argue against President Trump’s claims of voter fraud, seemed to call the Georgia races for Democrat challengers Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff during the broadcast, making predictions about votes that would mean the defeat of the GOP incumbents.

“Trump nemesis @GabrielSterling pretty much just called both races for the Dems on CNN, and he seemed to enjoy it,” journalist Dan Fagin tweeted.

“The GA elections guy should NOT be on CNN engaging in predictions and playing pundit,” Kevin Madden posted on Twitter while daily Caller reporter Chuck Ross found it “weird.”

“Georgia GOP election official Gabriel Sterling says on @CNN that Democrats will likely take the lead when DeKalb County comes in,” CNN producer Ryan Struyk said in one of his tweets.

Sterling also reportedly addressed Trump, telling him he had “already lost the state of Georgia.”

He also pinned the blame on the president for the potential GOP loss of the Georgia races.

“Well I’ll speak for outside of my role working for the state, this is a personal opinion that’ll fall squarely on the shoulders of President Trump and his actions since November 3,” Sterling said.

Early Tuesday morning, Sterling had tweeted that he would personally be voting for Sen. Kelly Loeffler and former Sen. David Perdue.

“We likely will see the leads of the Democrat challengers increase as we go through the morning,” Sterling told CNN early Wednesday.

The so-called Republican has been vehemently opposing Trump’s claims of vote fraud in the November 2020 presidential election. He fired back at Trump on Wednesday morning.

And in a press conference, he attacked the president again.

And while Democrats hailed Sterling as their new hero, many on social media expressed their outrage over his comments, his opposition to Trump and his remarks on CNN before the Georgia races were even called.
