U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is not planning on getting the coronavirus vaccine ahead of vulnerable Americans and she called out “unelected CDC bureaucrats” for their priorities.

The retiring Hawaii Democrat and former 2020 presidential candidate blasted “arrogant” federal health officials on Monday for recommending that essential workers be prioritized over elderly Americans in getting vaccinated, calling it an “immoral” policy.

“Heartless, arrogant, unelected CDC bureaucrats have decided that the lives of elderly Americans don’t count,” Gabbard captioned a video message she posted on Twitter Monday.

“This is immoral and bad health policy,” she added. “I had planned to get the vaccine but will now stand in solidarity with our seniors by not doing so until THEY can. I urge my colleagues who are under 65 and healthy to join me.”

“For months the CDC has been telling us that the elderly are the most vulnerable, but now they are recommending that 100 million so-called essential workers…can get the vaccine before our grandparents can,” Gabbard, who serves as a United States Army Reserve officer, said in the video filmed outdoors.

“Members of Congress, like me, can get the vaccine before at-risk seniors can. People like my aunt, who is imprisoned in her own home because of the danger, that if she catches the disease, she could die,” the lawmaker said before vowing not to get the vaccine herself until the elderly population has had access.

Gabbard’s video is one of several she has posted in recent days, discussing coronavirus restrictions and their effects on small business as well as her vote against the 5,593-page coronavirus spending bill that was filled with a staggering amount of taxpayer funds being used to cater to special interests and shipped overseas to help countries like Pakistan deal with “gender programs.”

In a message also posted Monday, Gabbard said “$600 is a slap in the face to every American struggling due to the pandemic. You deserve better.”

The former 2020 presidential candidate’s view on getting the COVID-19 vaccine echoed that of fellow Democrat Representative, Ilhan Omar, who slammed her colleagues for availing themselves to the shot ahead of the  “frontline workers, elderly and infirm.”

“It’s now clear that we don’t have enough vaccines for everyone and there is shortage of supply, we have to prioritize those who need it most,” she tweeted over the weekend just as fellow squad member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was vaccinated.

“That’s why it’s disturbing to see members be 1st to get vaccine while most frontline workers, elderly and infirm in our districts, wait,” Omar added.

A New York Times article on the coronavirus vaccine published earlier this month raised plenty of eyebrows with experts’ claims that more elderly white people dying would “level the playing field.”

The article noted that an “independent committee of medical experts that advises the C.D.C. on immunization practices will soon vote on whom to recommend for the second phase of vaccination,” sparking immediate concerns about “death panels” deciding the fate of citizens.

Members of that committee apparently put the lives and health of essential workers ahead of people 65 and older and, as the article stated, they not only used scientific evidence, but also “social justice concerns” in making their decisions.

Gabbard’s view on who should get priority on receiving the vaccine sparked a debate on social media where there was praise and criticism for her stance.
