Neither Fox News host Tucker Carlson nor American Majority CEO Ned Ryun care for the “bastardized, corporatist capitalism” that’s routinely defended and beloved by establishment Republicans.

Speaking together Friday on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” both concurred that the right’s embrace of this faux capitalism is paving the way for socialists to take over and destroy America.

During a monologue, Carlson specifically noted that the rich and wealthy are benefiting like gangbusters from the coronavirus lockdowns that are destroying the lives of working-class Americans.

This, he added, is exacerbating income inequality, something that Republican politicians tend to downplay because they think it “abets socialism.” But according to him, them ignoring this reality is what really abets it.

“There’s been this kind of agreement among think tank conservatives not to talk about growing income inequality because it abets socialism — that kind of talk. I would argue ignoring it is what’s bringing us socialism,” he said.

Carlson’s guest, Ned Ryun, the CEO of American Majority, a nonprofit that trains upcoming conservative activists and political candidates, agreed.

Listen to their discussion below:

He said it “frustrates me when many on the right don’t want to call out this, I guess, you [can] call it a bastardized, corporatist capitalism, because it’s not true, free-market capitalism.”

And the reason why it “frustrates” him is because the last time “bastardized, corporatist capitalism” became dominant in the U.S., progressivism spawned into existence.

“Go back and look at the turn of the 20th century when the robber barons … consolidated and rigged a system to benefit themselves, and we got the rise of progressivism, which gave us the administrative state and really started to do away with our constitutional republic,” he explained.

“We’re replaying the same thing where we’re allowing these people to rig the system. … And I will say this: History tells us if the reaction to this abuse of crony capitalism and the robber barons was progressivism, the result of what we’re seeing right now will be much, much worse.”

“Much, much worse” as in a President Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, for instance …

Speaking of AOC, Ryun urged Republicans to not underestimate her.

“People might want to laugh at AOC and the socialists, but when people look at this and think that somehow what we’re seeing is true capitalism, the reaction will be a strong reaction against it — and God forbid, but their answer is pure socialism,” he said.

The crony capitalism that the two were particularly exasperated by were the ostensible “bailouts for small businesses” that often wound up going to all the wrong people.

“[I]n many other cases, the money has gone to people with the right political connections. A voter registration nonprofit run by Rev. Raphael Warnock, now running for Senate in Georgia, raked in $482,000 in coronavirus bailout money. How did he do that? Don’t ask,” Carlson had noted earlier on the program.

“A firm that happens to be co-owned by Ilhan Omar’s husband got half a million dollars in tax money. Planned Parenthood hoovered up $80 million. (More abortions for everyone!) The Kennedy Center in Washington, home to the local opera, got $25 million and then laid off employees, anyway.”

All of this is true.

Listen to his monologue from earlier in the night below:

Besides lining the pocket of the elites, the bailouts also skyrocketed America’s debt, thus raising the likelihood of hyperinflation — something that would hurt working-class Americans the most.

“I am for helping small business owners who’ve been destroyed by government order, but these bailouts are going to bring us to a place where we have hyperinflation, and who is that going to help and who is it going to hurt exactly?” Carlson said to Ryun.

“Exactly. At some point, government is supposed to be of, by and for the people, and if we cannot have a government of the consent of the governed that actually is promoting and advancing the interests of the American people as a whole — the American taxpayer, the American small business owner — what is the point of that government?” Ryun replied.

“I mean, we’re literally looking at a rigged system in which it is benefiting these corporations, and the thing that frustrates me all the time about some of these libertarian-leaning think tanks is that we as conservatives should distrust the consolidation of power, whether it’s big government, big corporations, big tech.”

Yet oftentimes, establishment Republicans — be they those in think tanks or those in Congress — embrace big government, big corporations and big tech like family.

Just last week, for instance, the GOP-led Senate passed an immigration bill that “would hand the keys to our immigration system over to employers seeking cheap labor,” as reported by NumbersUSA, a nonprofit dedicated to immigration reform.

In other words, Republicans in the Senate agreed to bless corporations while once again giving the shaft to working-class Americans.

This is called “bastardized, corporatist capitalism,” and as noted by both Carlson and Ryun, it’s continued embrace by the right is only making it that much easier for dangerous extremists like AOC to gain hold of the levers of power.
