Mich. rep who threatened ‘Trumpers’ stripped of committee seats as another bizarre video surfaces

A Democrat lawmaker in Michigan who threatened President Trump’s supporters has been stripped of her committee seats and may face further disciplinary action.

State officials condemned comments made by Rep. Cynthia Johnson and announced Wednesday that she would be stripped of her seats on the House Agriculture, House Oversight, as well as Families, Children, and Seniors committees.

After harassing and insulting witnesses last week during a hearing on allegations of voter fraud, Johnson posted a video message threatening “Trumpers” and others who allegedly had been targeting her. The Democrat warned the president’s supporters in a video she posted on Facebook to “be careful” and “walk lightly” and called on her “soldiers” to “make them pay.”

Following the outcry over her inappropriate remarks, State House Speaker Lee Chatfield announced that Johnson would be removed from her committee assignments.

“Threats to Democrats or Republicans are unacceptable and un-American,” Chatfield said. “They’re even more unbecoming of an elected official. Rep. Johnson has been stripped of her committees and we’re looking into further disciplinary action as the proper authorities conduct their investigation.”

Johnson ignited backlash last week after her treatment of witnesses who were speaking with Trump’s legal team and gave their account of alleged vote fraud connected to the November election. The state legislator accused the witnesses of “lying” during the public Michigan House Oversight Committee hearing and was called out of order by the committee chair after her rant.

“It may not be done under the state, but you’re allowing people to come in here and lie, and I know they’re lying!” she shouted during the hearing.

Her condescending and improper behavior sparked widespread criticism with calls for disciplinary action or removal from office. Johnson responded to the outrage by making a series of Facebook posts claiming she was being harassed by people from around the country.

“And for those of you who are soldiers, you know how to do it. Do it right. Be in order. Make them pay,” Johnson had said in one of her videos complaining about the death threats she received after the hearing.

In another video she posted on Wednesday, she referred to the soldiers as “soldiers for Christ” and urged “soldiers against racism” and “misogyny” to “rise” in a sort of call to arms.

That video set off another wave of commentary on social media.

News of Johnson being stripped of her committee seats also sparked plenty of reaction from Twitter users:
