A-List actor and self-described centrist Matthew McConaughey is calling out leftists for their disdainful attitude toward Trump supporters and others on the conservative ideological spectrum. “On the far left, there is a lot [of people] on that illiberal left that absolutely condescend, patronize, and are arrogant towards the other 50 percent,” he declared on British comedian/actor Russell Brand’s podcast.
As far as Hollywood, in particular, is concerned, “Many people, I’m sure you saw it, in our industry when Trump was voted in four years ago, they were in denial that it was actually real. Some of them were in absolute denial,” McConaughey recalled. He went on say that the right is in denial about Joe Biden’s purported win (although the 2016 scenario is entirely different than the outcome of Election 2020 as it currently stands).
McConaughey’s rambling discourse was a response to Brand’s observation that liberal elitists reflexively condemned ordinary working people for voting for Donald Trump, or in the U.K., voting for Brexit, the national referendum in which a majority of the electorate outside of London chose leave the European Union. “I don’t like it, and I don’t like to hear it,” Brand — who is on the left himself — said.
When it comes to politics, McConaughey advocates meeting in the middle, in what he described as aggressive centrism. The Texas native referenced a metaphor to justify that point of view.
“Somebody said to me the other day, ‘You know what’s in the middle, McConaughey? Yellow lines and dead armadillos.’ And I said, ‘Let me tell you something, bud, I’m walking down the yellow line right now, and the armadillos are running free having a great time. You know why? The other two sides — the two vehicles on either side of the political aisle are so far apart, their f*****g tires aren’t even on the pavement anymore.”

Earlier this month, McConaughey acknowledged that he could potentially one day be interested in running for office in an interview with Hugh Hewitt, which may or may not explain why he is pushing centrism as he defines it.

In October, McConaughey spoke about his religious faith, condemned the cancel culture, and similarly called out Hollywood liberals for their hypocrisy in a long discussion on Joe Rogan’s podcast.
“Some people in our industry, not all them, but there’s some that go to the left so far…that go to the illiberal left side so far, that is so condescending and patronizing to 50 percent of the world that need the empathy that the liberals side gives and should give.”

As a superstar in the entertainment space, Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey is in the enviable position of being able to say whatever he wants, at least up to a point, without worrying about being blacklisted.
Less-established individuals in front or behind the camera risk losing their careers immediately if they publicly express any opinions or causes that run counter to the woke agenda, however.
