Peaceful protesters showed up outside the Santa Monica, California, home of Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl on Saturday and they had a good reason: Kuehl was spotted dining outdoors at a nearby restaurant only hours after casting the deciding vote in favor of a ban on outdoor dining, which the supervisors approved 3-2.  The demonstrators chanted, among other things, “open up L.A.” and “let us work” and carried signs with similar messaging outside the elected official’s residence.

Kuehl, who claimed that outdoor dining was very dangerous in the midst of a “serious health emergency,” joins a long list of Democrats who have flouted the rules that they have imposed on everyone else.

A spokesperson for the politician provided this rationale: “Kuehl has eaten at Il Forno Trattoria virtually every night for many years, and on the last night that it was permitted by the county health orders, she dined there al fresco taking appropriate precautions as recommended by the Department of Public Health.” Kuehl subsequently told a local news outlet that she went to the eatery “to personally inform the owners of the upcoming ban.”

Restaurateur Angela Marsden, the owner of the Pineapple Hill Saloon & Grill in Sherman Oaks, whose prior heartfelt viral video revealed the hypocrisy and arbitrariness by Gov. Gavin Newsom and Mayor Eric Garcetti in banning outdoor dining while allowing a movie company to feed staffers outside, reportedly attended the protest.

Some who showed up were apparently inspired by Marsden’s emotionally powerful video. Kuehl was evidently not at her home during the demonstration.

“We in the restaurant industry are losing everything. We have bartenders with babies and children and they can’t pay their rent. They can’t eat — and it’s because of you, Sheila Cruel-y, as you laugh and dine and eat out,” Marsden reportedly declared outside the supervisor’s home.

“Maybe we should hand over your paycheck to these businesses that have been shut down,” another protester chimed in.

Here are some images and videos of the grassroots protest:

Californians have launched a petition effort to recall Gov. Newsom — another Democrat who violated his own COVID-19-related restrictions — over his draconian shutdown orders.

According to podcaster Dave Rubin and Angela Marsden, Sheila Kuehl — a former actress back in the day and a state senator from 1994 to 2008 — makes $300,000 a year, while businesses and workers in California are struggling. “She makes $25,00 a month to sit at home and stay safely inside,” Marsden claimed.
