It seems just like yesterday that having a Fort Lauderdale address was seen as tony, but the Florida city has been declared the most unsafe city in America according to a new survey from WalletHub.
But the reasoning behind ranking Fort Lauderdale dead last out of 182 cities in the United States adds to the many reasons why rational Americans see most “worst of” lists as little more than bunk.
From COVID-19 to climate control, to dastardly “unaffordable second mortgages,” WalletHub says Fort Lauderdale is just not a safe place to live. Even though the real estate marketing site Point 2 says 82% of the population is employed in white-collar jobs and the average household income is $95,797, with over 80% of residents above the poverty line.
To be fair, those beautiful Fort Lauderdale beaches can be deadly for northerners who underestimate the power of the Florida sun and forego sunscreen protection. And the city is the county seat of Broward County, run by Democrats who have a rich history of incompetence.

“Aside from the types of hazards that can cause bodily injury or other physical harm, taking out an unaffordable second mortgage, forgoing health insurance or even visiting unsecured websites are also ways people run into danger,” said WalletHub, according to the Sun Sentinel. “Some cities are simply better at protecting their residents from harm.”
WalletHub ranked Fort Lauderdale 179th in “home and community safety,” which included metrics like presence of law enforcement, average COVID-19 cases in seven days and the number of aggravated assaults, the Sun Sentinel reported. The city was ranked 170th for financial safety, which features metrics such as unemployment rate, underemployment and job security.
At least they don’t call it financial justice.
If it seems everything has been politicized in post-Obama America, that’s because it has. The popular politician ushered in an era where the entertainment industry and the sports world eschewed any pretense of neutrality out of respect for their paying customers to push all-in with their liberal views. And politics now bleeds into everything.
The thing is, the mayor of Fort Lauderdale is a Democrat.
Mayor Dean Trantalis told the newspaper that he found the WalletHub rankings “puzzling.”
Proving he’s a Democrat, the mayor boasted about being the first city in the state to shut down for spring break.
“As far as COVID-19 cases go, Fort Lauderdale has been an example that others have followed in terms of safety protocols,” Trantalis said. “We were the first city to shut down beaches for Spring Break and have continued to stay vigilant in keeping people safe.”
