The great thing about being an affirmative action hire at MSNBC is that pesky little things like telling the truth are secondary to providing the network valuable “woke” credibility among the left.
All of which works out well for Joy Reid, who seems to struggle on a daily basis with being honest — either that or she’s simply in over her head in offering sound political commentary.
On Tuesday’s show, Reid accused Republicans of wanting to see people die from the coronavirus and falsely informed her viewers the vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer were not part of President Trump’s Operation Warp Speed.
“Imagine, if you can, being in a house that’s on fire and while you can hear the fire department sirens in the distance — rescue is so close,” Reid began. “You can’t get out because someone has bolted the door. America’s in a national coronavirus crisis. Our house is on fire and Republican elected officials are doing the equivalent of locking the door with the American people trapped inside.”
With over-the-top rhetoric like that, is it any wonder conservatives are assassinated in the streets, as seen recently in Portland?
Reid went on to say the GOP is busy “fighting mask mandates and pushing back on common sense health recommendations” … because they dare believe in freedom.
“So, while Republicans are busy demanding freedom from masks, they apparently could care less about the 248,000 Americans who’ve lost their lives to the virus and they accept no responsibility for any of it,” she posited.
The MSNBC host ran a clip of Republican senators touting Operation Warp Speed in light of hope that soon-to-be-released vaccines may be a light at the end of the tunnel.
But the GOP can’t be allowed to take credit for the potentially positive development, and Reid falsely claimed that Moderna and Pfizer were not part of Trump’s program.
“I just want to fact check real quick to remind y’all that the companies themselves that are producing the vaccines were not involved in Operation Warp Speed and have said as much, so that’s a lie,” Reid lied.
“Meanwhile, it is Democrats who have passed a comprehensive coronavirus package way back in May and passed it again in October,” she said. “It’s currently languishing somewhere in McConnell’s office next to the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.”
Pfizer and Moderna estimate that they’ll have 45 million doses available by January, and they were part of Operation Warp Speed.
Beginning with Moderna, take it from the New York Times: “Very much so.”
The paper reported: “The United States government provided $1 billion in support for the design and testing of the Moderna vaccine.”
As for Pfizer, though it did not accept federal funding to help develop or manufacture the vaccine, the Times noted that the drug manufacturer “got a $1.95 billion deal with the government’s Operation Warp Speed, the multiagency effort to rush a vaccine to market, to deliver 100 million doses of the vaccine.”
The arrangement is an advance-purchase agreement, which means Pfizer will not get paid until they deliver the vaccines.
In reporting on the story, Media Research Center pointed out that Reid “accusing Republicans of willfully wanting to see mass coronavirus deaths was made possible thanks to (and thus made possible thanks to the endorsement of) advertisers such as Chevrolet, Discover, and Qunol.”
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
Succeeded because capitalism works. May not have received research dollars from the government, but sure as shit received advance-purchase order of $2 billion with Pfizer to manufacture 100 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine as stated on Wikipedia.

You cant fix Stupid and Joy Reid is about as uninformed as they come. Moderna was absolutely a part of Warp Speed, and Pfizer received funding in the billions as well.

I would really wrestle with myself if I woke up every day with this much negativity that I couldn’t be grateful for the incredible Scientists tireless work to save lives for Humanity. How does Joy still have a job & who is listening to this. Celebrate don’t Hate!

Joy Reid must be a blast at dinner parties.

Joy Reid is so compromised and handled by her elite ‘betters’ they probably could pick up secondary and tertiary fingerprints off her person. She speaks for exactly zero people- and probably not even for herself. But hey, cash them checks grrrrl.
