Conservative author and activist Candace Owens reality-checked a freshman Democrat in Congress for her remarks on Breonna Taylor.
Owens mocked Representative-elect Cori Bush, Missouri’s first black pro-BLM congresswoman after she tweeted about her “Breonna Taylor” mask and how Republicans will come to know more about the victim of a Kentucky police shooting “because of my presence here.”
Bush, a nurse, pastor and Black Lives Matter activist, won election this month after she ran on a progressive platform. Ahead of a Democratic orientation for new House members, Bush tweeted a photo of herself wearing a mask bearing Taylor’s name.
Taylor, a 26-year-old African-American woman, died back in March after being shot in her Louisville, Kentucky, apartment by plainclothes officers during a botched drug raid, sparking a wave of protests against police.
Change does not come from this place unless we bring it here ourselves.

Bush tweeted later claiming some of her Republican colleagues appeared to be unfamiliar with Taylor.
“It’s Day One, so I’m wearing my ‘Breonna Taylor’ mask. A few of my Republican colleagues have called me Breonna, assuming that’s my name. It hurts. But I’m glad they’ll come to know her name & story because of my presence here. Breonna must be central to our work in Congress,” she wrote on Twitter.
Owens responded to that tweet, giving the Democrat a swift reality check.
“There is already a ‘Justice for Breonna Taylor Act’ which was introduced to Congress in June,” she tweeted, adding that it “was introduced/sponsored by REPUBLICAN senator @RandPaul.”
“Hope you had a good first day on the side of perpetual race-bait stupidity, known as Democrats in Congress,” Owens added.

The Justice for Breonna Taylor Act prohibits no-knock warrants, such as was used to enter Taylor’s apartment back in March. The practice, already banned in some cities across the nation, allows law enforcement officials to forcibly enter a home without any need to announce their presence or their purpose.
The new Missouri congresswoman told reporters that it was “hurtful” that Republicans called her by Taylor’s name.
“It just saddens me … that people in leadership, people that want to be in leadership don’t know the struggles that are happening to black people in this country,” she said. “And it’s just disheartening and it was hurtful, absolutely hurtful. And I didn’t hear it once. I didn’t hear it twice. I heard it several times.”
I am Breonna Taylor as far as I could be a Black woman murdered in my bed tonight. But I am not Breonna Taylor. She was murdered and still has not received the justice she deserves. pic.twitter.com/nL9S8M9quT

“I am Breonna Taylor, as far as I could be a black woman murdered in my bed tonight,” Bush added.
“This has been national news for a long time,” she said. “People have protested in the streets with this name, and it just saddens me that people in leadership, people that want to be in leadership, don’t know the struggles that are happening to black people in this country.”
Meanwhile, Owens got plenty of social media agreement and applause for her mic-dropping tweet to Bush.
They are just all so impossibly stupid. It’s honestly depressing.
