Despite attempts by David Letterman to get her to bash President Donald Trump, Kim Kardashian reportedly declined to do so and instead expressed gratitude for the administration’s implementation of criminal justice sentencing reform.

Trump foe Letterman interviewed Kardashian, the spouse of presidential candidate Kanye West, on a wide range of topics in the first episode of his Netflix show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, which drops on October 21. The content of the show generally consists of liberal Letterman pandering to the egos of various celebrities.

Kardashian famously met with Trump in the White House Oval Office in May 2018 as a proponent for the release of Alice Marie Johnson, who was serving a life sentence for drug trafficking-related offenses, a term of imprisonment that many believed was unjust and disproportionate. Trump subsequently commuted the sentence of Johnson (and later pardoned her), who was one of the featured speakers at the Republican National Convention in August.

The Trump administration also enacted the First Step Act, which resulted in the release of thousands of convicted felons who met certain criteria to get a second chance of becoming productive citizens. Johnson is now a criminal justice reform advocate.

“Hopefully, for the next multiple administrations, I’ll be working with the White House, helping them with clemencies,” Kardashian told Dave in the spirt of non-partisanship.

Recalling the reaction among left-wing Hollywood celebrities about potentially meeting with Trump on a good cause was wholly negative, Kardashian revealed that ”Trust me, everyone called me and said, ‘Don’t you dare step foot in that White House or your reputation is done.’ And I said, ‘I have to step foot in there or these people’s lives don’t have a chance.'”

Using an excessive amount of word salad, David Letterman was having a difficult time given Trump any credit for his accomplishment on this particular policy issue, according to the Daily Beast, a news outlet that loathes the incumbent president.

“Clearly uncomfortable with the notion of aiding Trump’s image, Letterman then asks, ‘But do you feel that what is being done on behalf of sentencing reform now via this current administration in any way allows the balance of democracy back in a corridor of viability?’

“It’s a terribly worded, nonsensical question that elicits the only logical response from his guest, who replies, ‘Well, I have no idea what you just said.’

“After the laughter and applause dies down, Letterman tries another tack. “I’m grateful for what you’re doing, but it doesn’t make me feel any better about the current administration,” he says. But as she has done repeatedly over the past couple of years, Kardashian refuses to say one bad word about the man in the White House, only telling him, “I understand that.'”

Letterman then chimed with a reference to unspecified unacceptable behavior by Trump.

“Instead of agreeing that any such ‘unacceptable behavior” exists, Kardashian only says she is ‘extremely grateful’ for the administration’s work on criminal justice reform and will ‘stay focused’ on what she can accomplish,” the Daily Beast noted.

Kim also declined to state who she is voting for in the 2020 election.
