Biden campaign surrogate Jenna Arnold was a little too transparent in her efforts to spin past the question of whether emails purported to belong to Hunter Biden are in fact his, as she pretty much confirmed that they are in the quest to move on.
Arnold was being interviewed Sunday by Fox News host Leland Vittert, who first ran a clip of Democratic nominee Joe Biden insisting last year that he didn’t discuss any of his son’s overseas business dealings with him.
Vittert then asked his guest if Biden’s denial remains true, given the content found on a laptop Hunter Biden reportedly abandoned at a computer repair shop, and Arnold blew right by the question to comment on claims that much of what’s on the laptop is unconfirmed.
“Jenna, it’s real simple. You’re saying it’s unconfirmed. Tell us what parts are not true,” Vittert replied. “Hunter Biden knows what emails he has and hasn’t sent. Are you saying, and the campaign saying, these emails aren’t his?”
She was clear in not denying that the emails may be from Biden’s son, but tried to quickly pivot from that to shift the focus on Rudy Giuliani — a copy of the laptop’s hard drive was given to Giuliani’s personal attorney Robert Costello.
“It’s unclear to me,” Arnold said. “I would say that what’s so important right now from both the American citizens and the media, yourself included Leland, is to continue to ask clarifying questions about this. Why the FBI is investigating? But it’s imperative to note that the NSA pulled up that Giuliani was being played by these emails —“
Not about to let her skirt the issue so easily, Vittert interrupted the talking points to press on whether the emails belong to the younger Biden.
“The easiest thing in the world to do — stop with all the obfuscation, the easiest thing in the world to do would be to say these aren’t Hunter Biden’s emails,” he told Arnold. “Nobody, including Hunter Biden and including the campaign has said it.”
The Fox News host then played the recent clip of Joe Biden attacking a CBS reporter who did ask about the controversy.
“I thought that demonizing the media was a threat to our democracy, Vittert said. “Every time President Trump attacks the media Democrats, yourself included, can’t wait to yell about that. Don’t the American people deserve something better than the vice — former vice president attacking the person who asks a legitimate question?”
Arnold tried to suggest that Biden didn’t attack the reporter, despite was the clip just showed.
When Vittert read back some of Biden’s quotes, saying it “sounds like an attack to me,” the Democratic strategist provoked laughter from him when she replied, “That doesn’t strike me as an attack.”
They went back and forth about which campaign is attacking the most, with Arnold taking exception to the Chinese government being compared to Nazi Germany, before she took a left turn and tried to bring pandemic deaths into the discussion.
“I’m so confused,” Vittert interjected. “What’s interesting is I feel like you still haven’t answered the fundamental question — which is can anyone say that these emails are inauthentic? And so far I haven’t heard anybody say that.”
“Yeah. I think that’s fair. I don’t think anybody’s saying that,” Arnold replied.
