The Trump campaign slammed the media for beating a dead horse by reiterating that the president has “continuously denounced” white supremacists during the past four years — and he did so again during the first debate, in response to moderator Chris Wallace’s question asking Trump to condemn white supremacists.
Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh told Fox News in a post-debate interview: “[President Trump] has repeatedly, over the course of years now, denounced white supremacists and has been consistent in doing that. The media keeps asking him to denounce white supremacy and he keeps doing it. At a certain point, they’re going to have to take ‘yes’ for an answer.”
Murtaugh underscored that President Trump has denounced white supremacy “over and over and over again” and has actually done things to help black Americans.
Murtaugh said Trump’s actions are a stark contrast to Joe Biden, who has paid lip service to helping black Americans during his 47-year career in Washington, while doing nothing to actually help them.
“Just last week, the president declared the KKK a terrorist organization [so his condemnation of white supremacy] cannot be clearer than that,” Murtaugh said.
Murtaugh then noted that President Trump’s Black America Plan, also known as the “Platinum Plan,” will “prosecute the KKK and Antifa as terrorist organizations and make lynching a national hate crime.”
Trump has also vowed to make Juneteenth a national holiday. Moreover, his pro-black Platinum Plan will invest $500 billion into black communities.
Murtaugh pointed out: “Joe Biden has not done that in 47 years in Washington, including his eight years as vice president. Joe Biden has never done that.”
The brouhaha over white supremacy erupted during the debate when moderator Chris Wallace, a registered Democrat, asked Trump to denounce white supremacists, a group that — unlike Black Lives Matter and Antifa — has not rioted, looted, or torched American cities this year.
Trump replied that of course he’d denounce white supremacy, but pointed out that the violence, racial animus, and mob bullying have come entirely from left-wing rioters over the past year.
“Sure, I’m willing to do that,” Trump said. “But I would say that almost everything [in terms of violence and destruction] is from the left-wing, not the right-wing. I am willing to do anything. I want to see peace.”

That’s when Biden interjected by shouting that the president should condemn the Proud Boys, a right-wing group that has clashed with left-wing protesters.
“Who do you want me to condemn?” President Trump said. “What do you want to call them? Give me a name.”
Biden retorted: “Proud Boys.”
President Trump replied: “Proud Boys stand back and stand by. But I’ll tell you what, somebody has got to do something about Antifa and the left. Because this [violence and rioting] is not a right-wing problem. This is a left-wing problem.”
Biden then interjected by defending Antifa, saying it’s “an idea, not an organization.”
Trump scoffed: “You’ve got to be kidding! When a bat hits you over the head that’s not an idea. Antifa is bad.”
Black Trump supporter Melissa Tate tweeted: “Why is it Trump who has to denounce white supremacy when it was Biden who attended a funeral of a KKK grand dragon and praised him? Richard Spencer, a white supremacist, endorsed Biden. Why didn’t Chris Wallace ask him to denounce that?”
Another black Trump supporter tweeted: “You wanna see real racism? Try being Black and telling a leftist you’re not a Democrat.”
