Fox News host Steve Hilton addressed the “out of control” climate of hostility in the nation and called for lawmakers and the media to “lower the temperature” on rhetoric.
The host of “The Next Revolution” pointed to the left’s recent threats of more rioting after the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, highlighting examples of the radical responses from Democrats during his Fox News show on Sunday. Hilton also noted moments of civility that should set the example for the nation moving forward.
Hilton told viewers that he is “worried that we’re losing our humanity,” sharing extreme reactions to Ginsburg’s death and the prospect that President Donald Trump will be moving to fill her vacant court seat. He shared two examples of what that “humanity” should look like, highlighting comments from Trump and also from Ginsburg who was friends with her ideologically opposite colleague on the high court, the late Justice Antonin Scalia.
Asked about their unlikely friendship, Ginsburg had remarked that Scalia told her “I attack ideas, I don’t attack people.”
Hilton also noted Trump’s surprise at first hearing about Ginsburg’s death Friday and his classy response.
“She led an amazing life,” he said. “What else can you say? She was an amazing woman. She was an amazing woman who led an amazing life.”

Hilton contrasted these displays with that of former CNN contributor Reza Aslan who tweeted that if Republicans try to fill the SCOTUS seat before the election, “we burn the entire f***ing thing down.” He later added, referring to comments by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that the Senate would move ahead to vote on Trump’s named nominee, tweeting, “over our dead bodies, literally.”
GQ columnist Laura Bassett vowed “there will be riots” and added “more, bigger riots” as liberal America had a meltdown and Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal tweeted that “nothing is off the table” if Republicans move forward with the confirmation process.

“We are descending into barbarism,” Hilton said in his monologue Sunday, defending the president and confronting the left over hateful and divisive rhetoric and threats of violence.
“Now it’s out of control. People won’t talk to those they disagree with. They’re abusive. They call them fascists. They’re frightened to say what they think,” he said.
“I know multiple people who agree with Trump on the issues. They know he’d be better for the country, but they want Biden to win because they are frightened of the violence if he doesn’t. The left say Trump is a threat to democracy, but isn’t that the death of democracy right there when the fear of political violence stops people voting?” Hilton asked.
“This madness is manufactured,” he went on, adding that people “have been riled up” by “ridiculous, irresponsible rhetoric.”
“What kind of example are we setting for our children? Dial it down. Calm it down. Back it up,” he said. “All of us, I say it to my friends and colleagues at this network too. Everyone with a public platform has a responsibility right now to lower the temperature, not raise it.”
Hilton contended that social media platforms are a “huge part of this disaster,” calling out the tech giants who claim they are a “mirror” for society.
“It’s not a mirror. It’s a megaphone, and their systems are specifically designed to amplify the worst because that’s what gets attention,” the Fox News host declared.
“There are big issues at stake in this election and in this court process,” Hilton reiterated. “Get engaged, Argue it out, but lower the temperature.”
