Lindsey Graham’s famous rant a chilling reminder: ’Y’all want power, I hope you never get it!’

It was easily one of the most powerful moments of Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing.

A visibly angry Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) passionately defending the Supreme Court nominee, who had sailed through multiple FBI background checks throughout his decades-long career on the federal bench and in the White House, after being viciously smeared as a sexual predator by Democrats who paraded a number of women into the Judiciary Committee hearing room to falsely claim that Kavanaugh assaulted them years ago.

“This is the most unethical sham since I’ve been in politics,” Graham railed during the Sept. 27, 2018 hearing.

“Boy, you all want power. God, I hope you never get it. I hope the American people can see through this sham — that you knew about it and you held it,” he continued, ripping into Democrats for allegedly sitting on accusations against Kavanaugh made by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford of California, then releasing them allegedly against her will.

“You had no intention of protecting Dr. Ford. None. She’s as much of a victim as you are,” he said.

The passionate defense came during one of the most contentious Supreme Court nominee hearings in the history of the country, as Democrats fought tooth and nail to keep Kavanaugh off the bench and deny President Donald Trump his second nomination.

Now, with the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and with the Kavanaugh fiasco still fresh in their minds, some are already prediction an even more contentious process for whomever the president names — and he has said he will name someone, likely a woman.

Also, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said he would ensure whomever the president nominated would get a vote, despite the fact that the presidential election is only about six weeks away.

“Our American institutions right now and our political system are undergoing a stress test as difficult and intense as I’ve ever seen,” Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume told Tucker Carlson on Friday.

“I think the leaders have to consider what the effect would be if we plunged into what would undoubtedly be a brutal and divisive confirmation battle,” he continued. “But I really think the threshold question is whether to put the country through this.

“I’d hate to imagine where such a battle” over naming a “judicial conservative” to replace Ginsburg “could go.”

Jeanine Pirro, a former judge and another Fox News host, agreed with Hume that the risk to the civil society of the country may be too great at this point for Trump to nominate someone.

“The political game that will be played after this will be…something that will be so incredibly strong in terms of both sides going at each other that it’s not something that we necessarily need to see before the election,” she said.

“At the back of everyone’s mind is, ‘Oh, maybe we shouldn’t try and exercise our system in the way it was intended to be exercised because Biden voters will get mad and start hurting people,” Carlson countered. “That’s kind of a weird place to be, isn’t it?”

Fox News host Steve Hilton, likely sensing the coming firestorm, addressed threats from some on the left following Ginsburg’s death and called on leaders and Americans, in general, to dial down the anger.

Ahead of sharing examples of unhinged responses, Hilton said he “worried that we’re losing our humanity.”

“We are descending into barbarism,” Hilton said Sunday as he defended Trump and pointed out the divisive, angry rhetoric of the left.

“Now it’s out of control. People won’t talk to those they disagree with. They’re abusive. They call them fascists. They’re frightened to say what they think.”
