Key takeaway from Schumer joint presser – AOC is the ‘de facto speaker of the House’

Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., chairman of the Senate GOP Conference, is pushing for President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to put forth a nominee to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

In warning that Democrats, under the leadership of Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., will “blow up the Senate” if they gain the majority in 2021, Barracco cited Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who appeared with Schumer at a Saturday press conference, to say this is proof she is the “de facto speaker of the House,” according to Fox News.

Even more troubling, the Republican senator suggested it’s a sign of what to expect from the Democratic Party in the days ahead.

“If the Democrats win the White House and the Senate and have the House they will change the rules and they will blow up the Senate,” Barrasso said Sunday, during an appearance on Fox News.

“They have an entire war room working on this and they will expand the number of members of Supreme Court regardless of what the Republicans and President Trump do,” he added.

As for Ocasio-Cortez, 30, holding a joint presser with Schumer, rather than Speaker Pelosi, 80, keep in mind the democratic socialist from New York was tending bar in the Bronx just two years ago.

Schumer claimed AOC was present to “show how unified we are,” but it appeared that she was also there to keep a close eye on what the Democratic leader was saying.

Under the guise of “protecting” Ginsburg’s legacy, Schumer said they were there to “demand that her last wish be fulfilled by the Senate” — this being that she reportedly told her granddaughter days before her death, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”

Naturally, Schumer tied filling the seat to the right to have an abortion.

“We’re here to protect the rights of women,” he said. “Their rights to their own body, their right to choose, their rights to health care, their rights to equality… would all go down the drain if that wish were not realized.”

Staying with his fearmongering narrative, Schumer said any nominee Trump chooses “will undo all of that, and not make global warming less likely but more likely — and it will come quicker.”

“We do not want to turn the clock back,” he would add. “And we only need two more senators to say that they will abide by RGB’s wish. Two said it. We need two more.”

Given persistent rumblings Ocasio-Cortez could primary Schumer in 2022, the fact that he included her in his press conference may have been a tactical move designed to head her off.

Oddly, their joint appearance stirred more discussion about a potential matchup:
