In broad daylight, a Bill de Blasio-appointed judge was “cold-cocked” in an apparently random attack on her way to work in downtown Manhattan on Monday, August 31.
Judge Phyllis Chu, 56, had just stepped off the Staten Island Ferry at about 9:40 a.m. and was heading to the courthouse when a passerby on a bicycle punched her in the jaw.
“With no words exchanged, a bicyclist riding in the opposite direction as the one she was walking in just punched her in the face and kept going,’’ a spokesman for the court system said.
The judge alerted cops who searched the area for the assailant but never located a suspect, who is described as being heavyset and wearing a blue and green shirt and riding a Citi Bike.
“The individual who may have been emotionally disturbed was nowhere to be found,’” the court rep added. An investigation into the Judge Chu assault incident is ongoing.
Judge Chu, a former prosecutor who presides over criminal cases, was left with a swollen lip after the attack, but declined medical attention at the time. After arriving at her chambers, her colleagues took her to the emergency room, however, where she was treated and released later that day.
The judge was yet to issue a public statement about the encounter.
Soft-on-crime Democrat de Blasio has presided over a city where street violence has skyrocketed and where the city council has already voted to defund the police budget by about $1 billion. The Big Apple has also experienced its worst outbreak of gun violence in nearly 25 years.

According to various reports, New York City residents are bailing on the five boroughs for nearby Connecticut, New Jersey, or states farther away because of the breakdown in social norms, which includes a so-called bail reform law that results in criminals walking out of the courthouse on a catch-and-release basis.
Without backing from the mayor, police morale and officers’ relationship with City Hall have deteriorated, and a higher-than-normal number of officers have submitted their retirement papers.
The street crime in New York City is unfortunately being replicated in other Democrat-controlled municipalities across the country.
The lawlessness in America’s big and smaller cities right now is just a preview of how Joe Biden and his far-left handlers intend to fundamentally transform the country if they win the presidential election, FNC’s Laura Ingraham asserted earlier this month.
“…[t]he Democrats are giving us a glimpse of [the new normal] in California and in New York and on the streets of Chicago, and Baltimore. In Joe’s new society, you will be poorer, less safe, less free, and your kids will be less educated and, at that point, the virus will be the least of our problems.”
In a perhaps first-of-its kind endorsement, the New York City Police Benevolent Association — a union that represents 24,000 NYPD officers — is officially backing President Trump.
