MSNBC’s Chris Hayes remembers defending Tea Party’s right to ‘scream’ at politicians; 2009 clip shows differently

Like virtually every member of the far-left mainstream establishment media, it appears MSNBC’s Chris Hayes is a raging hypocrite who seems to base his judgments against others not on consistent principle but rather on political ideology.

And so after left-wing extremists affiliated with the Black Lives Matter and Antifa movements harassed, hounded and tried to assault attendees as they left the White House after the conclusion of the Republican National Convention late Thursday, he rushed to their defense by trotting out some standard-fair whataboutism.

It started with Rich Lowry of National Review describing the events in D.C. as “another appalling scene in a summer full of them.”

He was right. Throughout the summer, left-wing extremists — or “peaceful protesters,” as media figures such as Hayes have called them — have rioted, looted, committed, arson, assaulted innocent people and, in some cases, even killed.

Yet for some reason, Lowry’s tweet seemed to anger Hayes, who replied with whataboutism.

Look:

The way it works is that because Hayes hates guns, he automatically assumes people carrying guns are evil, dangerous people, never mind how they actually behave.

And so when armed lockdown protesters peacefully but loudly demonstrated at the Michigan State Capitol last spring without threatening anybody, attacking the police, or vandalizing property, that was a problem, he and other left-wingers believe.

Conversely, because he seemingly stands with left-wing extremists, it’s perfectly OK for said extremists to do whatever they want, especially if they’re not armed.

Of course, in the world inhabited by left-wing “journalists” even armed left-wing extremists are sometimes the good guys

Continuing his rant, Hayes then cited words he’d allegedly said during the Tea Party protests in 2009 as proof that he’s always supported so-called “protesters.”

Look:

Fact-check: FALSE.

The reality is that during protests in 2009, he felt no qualms about impugning the protesters for their “implacable bullying, braying, and intimidation.”

Listen:

Missing from anything he said then or is saying now is a recognition of the fact that the Tea Party protests didn’t engender widespread rioting, looting and arson.

Nor did those protests involve protesters …

Fighting the police:

Threatening to burn down buildings:

Threatening people:

Assaulting the elderly:

Committing homophobic assaults:

Whatever the hell this was:

Remember, these are the people whom Hayes thinks are the good guys …

But would he feel similarly if he were the victim? The evidence suggests not. In numerous instances, left-wing figures have suddenly turned against the extremists the moment the extremists came for them personally.

Over in Seattle, where Mayor Jenny Durkan initially described riots as “a summer of love,” she abruptly changed her stance the moment protesters targeted her home.

And over in Chicago, where Mayor Lori Lightfoot has tolerated riots and protests throughout her city, she instituted a protest ban in only her neighborhood when the extremists began trying to “demonstrate” there.

But the best example of left-wing hypocrisy comes courtesy a former ESPN “journalist” — Hayes is also a journalist, *cough* — who loudly cheered the extremists as they burned down an affordable housing complex but then cried foul the second they showed up in his community.

Look:

Sounds about left … just like Chris Hayes.
