While comedy used to be about being funny, the awfully unfunny “comedy” shticks at this year’s Democrat National Convention made it seem as if Democrats have redefined its meaning, much as they’ve redefined the meaning of practically everything else.
Case in point: To spice up the opening of the convention’s fourth night this Thursday, ostensible comedian Julia Louis-Dreyfus and failed Democrat primary candidate Andrew Yang tried to perform some comedy routines.
And well, they left much to be desired, according to critics.

Even “Never Trumper” Tom Nicholas, a member of the discredited Lincoln Project, cringed in despair at Louis-Dreyfus and Yang’s brand of “comedy.”
Look:
Oh man, cancel the Julia and Andrew show
*cringe*— Tom Nichols (@RadioFreeTom) August 21, 2020
This sentiment was shared by other blue checkmark Twitter users as well, some of them decidedly liberal, and some of them undoubtedly conservative.
Look:
Julia Louis Dreyfus had a scripted moment with Andrew Yang. And it fell flat, like every moment ever in any awards show ever. Why would anyone think that sort of banter is somehow out of the ordinary for U.S. media sensibilities.

What was that exchange between Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Andrew Yang? Weird as hell
— Jason Buttrill (@JasonButtrill) August 21, 2020
Yeah that was really bad
— Suzanne Lindbergh (@suzannebuzz) August 21, 2020
Omgosh this is horrible.

The general public was even more scathing:
It’s just sad at this point.

this was one of the cringiest things i’ve ever watched!
— abenezer🍊(🇪🇹🇨🇦) (@AbenezerFanta) August 21, 2020
I’m hoping and willing to bet that was NOT Yangs idea. So much cringe!

Cringe like I’ve never seen.
Is this…what the hell is even happening??
— Infinite Idiocracy (@Infinite_Ennui) August 21, 2020
Lmao I so cringe I seen this live and thought to myself what the hell am I watching

Notice the repeat use of the term cringe. The reality is that every day and night of the Democrat National Convention has been uber cringe thanks to the Democrats’ ironically typical poor decision-making.
On the second day of the convention, Sen. Elizabeth Warren appeared as part of a Native American Caucus, despite her sordid history of falsely proclaiming herself to be a Native American Indian. A DNA test eventually proved that she’s just a white woman.

Talking about how Trump admin has “failed Indian Country,” leaving communities to get “ravaged by COVID-19.” Notes all the Trump admin delays in distributing emergency COVID-19 relief to tribes, causing “more suffering, more illness + more death.” pic.twitter.com/MXl1EIE2fb

Another constant theme throughout the convention has been the overwhelming presence of the exact sorts of clueless left-wing celebrities whom regular Americans despise.
It started with actress Eva Longoria kicking off the convention on Monday and has remained consistent throughout, though the abundance of celebrities appears to have done little to help the convention attract and retain an audience.
“At press time, posted viewership [for the convention’s first night] marks nearly a 28% drop from the high-stakes DNC of 2016. Broadcast channels ABC, CBS, and NBC were down a staggering 42% with just 6.7 million viewers at 10 p.m.,” the Washington Examiner reported Tuesday.
“Cable networks Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN were down 16% to nearly 12 million viewers. In total, that’s fewer than 19 million views — or 28% the viewership of the 2016 DNC. That’s roughly on par with the higher-rated Democratic primary debates, not one of which came within a stone’s throw of the best-rated 2016 Republican debates.”
Ratings for the convention didn’t spike until Wednesday, the night that former President Barack Hussein Obama made his appearance.
Night 3 of the DNC saw a sizable ratings bump with President Obama and Sen. Kamala Harris speeches in 10 PM hour. Preliminary ratings show more than 21M people on average tuned in, not counting streamers. Up from 19M the day before.

Other than for his appearance and, eventually, Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden’s speech Thursday, the convention has been a celebrity fest.
And well, this fact seems very telling to some conservatives:
Democrats bailed on Wisconsin for the second election in a row for four nights of liberal celebrities in Hollywood.
Our convention will focus on the real Americans @realDonaldTrump has been fighting for over the last four years!
— Ronna McDaniel (@GOPChairwoman) August 21, 2020
No way! Democrats are opening up their convention with celebrities who hate America.
You can’t make this up.
— Kambree (@KamVTV) August 18, 2020
What sort of shallow people really care about Hollywood celebrities involved in this convention?
— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 20, 2020
Instead of coming to Wisconsin and listening to voters, the DNC removed Wisconsin from its logo & has Hollywood celebrities hosting their convention.
And if I had to guess, they’ll end tonight from a basement on the East Coast. #DNCConvention pic.twitter.com/lf3tSxtWdW

Brilliant move! No one is more in touch with the challenges & obstacles faced by everyday Americans than actors & celebrities. https://t.co/nzHOniMHPN
