Portland protesters identifying themselves as the “press” were seen in videos hurling objects at police officers.
Video footage revealed that there have been people claiming to be members of the press, displaying the word “PRESS” on their clothing, who have been attacking law enforcement officers with objects in ongoing protests in the Oregon city.

Portland Police have previously shared reports of the destructive demonstrations where protesters posing as “press” have hurled rocks and glass bottles at them as the city has been besieged for more than 80 nights. Journalist Andy Ngo, editor-at-large of The Post Millennial, shared another video late Wednesday noting that many of the “people wearing PRESS’ markings are throwing projectiles at officers.”

The person who initially posted the video, and plenty of others, identified themselves as part of a “press collective in PDX.” In another tweet asking for donations, there were other Twitter users tagged whose accounts identify them as a “Portland based journalist” a “Multimedia Journalist & Managing Editor” attending the PSU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as well as one who identified as a “writer / tear gas sommelier.”
The video, and others like it, also showed green laser lights being pointed at the officers.

“In the evening hours of August 19, 2020, a group of a couple hundred people gathered in Elizabeth Caruthers Park located on the 3500 block of South Moody Avenue for a march that began around 9:15 p.m.,” the Portland Police Bureau reported on Monday.
The march proceeded to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building and traffic was being blocked by demonstrators, some of whom “were seen carrying shields and wearing helmets and gas masks.”

The protests was declared an “unlawful assembly” after the crowd “blocked traffic, shined lasers at Federal officers, and vandalized property,” according to police. Several attempts were made to disperse the crowds and when federal officers exited to building to remove them, they were met with objects including large rocks “described to be the size of softballs.”
Only two arrests were made in the night, despite police reporting how the crowd “engaged in criminal behavior” even after being warned.
Over the weekend, police had reported that people who identified themselves as “press” threw objects at law enforcement officers, sending at least two of them to the hospital.

“Portland Police dispersed the crowd, directing it west,” they reported in another demonstration at the beginning of the month. “People continued to throw glass and plastic bottles at police. People with ‘press’ written on their outer garments repeatedly threw objects at officers.”
