Far-left U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi continues to react less than positively to even a quasi-tough question from the usually compliant liberal media.
The latest example occurred on the PBS News Hour anchored by Judy Woodruff.
Woodruff, who many people would consider a liberal, was engaging in what used to be known as journalism as she was questioning Democrat Pelosi over the negotiations between her party and the GOP for a new COVID-related stimulus bill.
At one point in the interview, Woodruff politely mentioned that insofar as more taxpayer cash for state and local governments is concerned, Republicans “are saying they are willing to show flexibility, and they’re also saying a lot of the money that was passed in the spring, Madam Speaker, has not even been spent yet.”
Pelosi immediately bristled upon the mere mention of an alternative point of view about government spending.
“Well, if you want to be an advocate for them, Judy, if you want to be an advocate for them, listen to what the facts are,” Pelosi shot back.
“I’m playing devil’s advocate here,” Woodruff almost apologetically explained.
“No, you aren’t,” an unhappy Pelosi responded. “The point is we have a bill that meets the needs of the American people. It’s called the HEROES Act. They don’t even want to do state and local and when they do, it’s very meager, and they want to revert money from before.”

Later in the interview, Woodruff noted she was referencing the money that was appropriated by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that has yet to be spent “and whether that could be part of any solution here.”
President Trump signed the CARES Act into law on March 27, 2020.
At this point, Republicans and Democrats are still far apart on the specifics of any new legislation. Trump has insisted that no taxpayer money should be spent to bail out mismanaged Democrat states or localities under the guise of coronavirus relief.
In May 2020, Pelosi admitted that every crisis “is an opportunity,” which recognizes how Democrats have attempted to lard-up stimulus legislation with unrelated aspects of their radical agenda.
The president has vowed to take executive action that would defer payroll taxes until 2021, defer student loan payments, extend unemployment benefits and extend the ongoing eviction moratorium if congressional Democrats refuse to come to the table with reasonable, meaningful legislation. He acknowledged that a legal challenge to any executive order is likely.
As alluded to above, Pelosi and what might amount to constructive criticism aren’t a good fit
For example, in late July 2020, Pelosi melted down when a reporter tried to ask her if she was willing to support a short-term extension of unemployment benefits while lawmakers work on a broader COVID relief package.
“No, no, no!” she yelled repeatedly.
Pelosi lacks one advantage, perhaps the only one, that typically accrues to Republicans. That is, GOP lawmakers are very experienced (or should be) in answering tough or hostile questions from the press.
The Woodruff question, in particular, was hardly confrontational by any measure, however.
With all her pronouncements over what she considers good legislation for the country, Pelosi represents a San Francisco district where homelessness, crime, and drug abuse are rampant.
Twitterville took notice of Nancy’s PBS petulance with Judy Woodruff. Here is a sample.
Wow. Pelosi is so worked up about not being tossed softballs here. It's pathetic that she's so indignant about being asked a simple question.
If Democrats can't respond to simple Republican points then they're in big trouble. https://t.co/4xqj4HhHic— Brandon Morse (@TheBrandonMorse) August 6, 2020

Tyrant Pelosi believing reporters should toe the line is outraged when one breaks briefly from the cult mindset that has damaged our country so much. More and more people are waking up and leaving the cult. Get ready Pelosi!

This is an outrageous attack on the free press in America by a politician, I await the strong condemnation from the usual corners of the media. https://t.co/d6jhHfm6SD

I’ve seen many interviews over the past year and Pelosi’s views are never seriously contested. The format is usually: softball question -> extended pontification -> wry smiles/solemn nods of agreement. Given how choreographed legacy media is I’m suspicious of this change in tone.
