Rep. Ilhan Omar’s campaign reportedly got a much-needed infusion of funds from someone the Minnesota Democrat once criticized.
Facing a well-funded opponent in an expensive primary challenge, Omar was apparently bailed out by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who got $14,000 into the freshman Democrat’s campaign in July, according to records released this week by the Federal Election Commission.

Pelosi funneled $10,000 from her PAC to Omar as well as $4,000 from her campaign committee shortly after endorsing the reelection bid of the member of “The Squad,” the records show. The move came despite Omar’s criticism of the Democrat leader who called her out last year for using “deeply offensive” anti-Semitic tropes.
New FEC filing today shows Ilhan Omar’s campaign received $4,000 from Nancy Pelosi’s campaign, as well as $10,000 from PAC To The Future—which draws the bulk of it’s funding from Pelosi’s billionaire funded Victory Fund, on top of corporations like Goldman Sachs and Boeing. pic.twitter.com/EJyXRsDeiJ

And the infusion of funds came just weeks before Minnesota’s August 11 primary election in which Omar is facing off against four Democratic challengers, including attorney Antone Melton-Meaux who has managed to outraise her, according to The Star Tribune. Between April and June, the challenger raised $3.2 million compared to Omar’s $471,624 during the same time period.
Washington Free Beacon reported:
The impressive fundraising haul allowed Melton-Meaux to spend more than $1.7 million over the first three weeks of July. Omar, meanwhile, spent just $784,000. More than $600,000—77 percent of those disbursements—went to a D.C.-based consulting firm run by Omar’s new husband.
Following his spending spree, Melton-Meaux holds $695,000 on hand, down from the $2 million he held at the end of the second quarter. Omar holds $732,000 on hand.
Omar’s vocal opposition and criticism of President Donald Trump have made her popular among more liberal Democrats, but her controversial remarks and tweets have often raised the ire of Jewish leaders and some of her fellow Democrat colleagues. Omar, one of the first Muslim women ever elected to Congress, was named anti-Semite of the year by StopAntiSemitism.org last year.

Some conservative donors and pro-Israel groups backed Omar’s opponent in the primary race for Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District, reportedly holding a virtual fundraiser for Melton-Meaux back in May, according to the Star Tribune. Democratic Colorado governor Jared Polis, who is Jewish, gave $1,000 to Melton-Meaux’s campaign earlier this week.
The mediation lawyer and political newcomer has been seeing greater support even as Keith Ellison, Minnesota’s attorney general, slammed him for allegedly taking millions in “corporate and Republican dollars.”
Who cares? Omar is bought and paid for by Pelosi according to these receipts. Any “small dollar donations” are absolutely meaningless in the face of being bought by power. https://t.co/ZXkSEbOjxv

“Ilhan is a valued and important Member of our Caucus,” Pelosi said in a statement after endorsing Omar earlier this month. “In her first term, Ilhan has already established herself as a leader on a host of issues — from child nutrition to housing to US-Africa relations.”
Pelosi also lent her support to the other “Squad” member and Muslim congresswoman, Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.
Pelosi endorses Tlaib and Omar, the 2 most antisemitic congresswomen for re-election.
Interestingly, she did *not* endorse the 2 black candidates running against Tlaib and Omar.
So much for #BLM and empowering the black community.

Omar “now has the support of the Democratic leaders of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Minnesota legislature, representing the support of the state and national Democratic party at the highest levels,” Omar’s campaign said in a statement touting Pelosi’s endorsement.
