Armed standoff between motorist and road-blocking ‘protester’ captures powder keg in American streets

An incident in Eugene, Ore., captured just how much of a powder keg it is when law enforcement allows protesters to commandeer streets and block the flow of traffic.

On the same day an armed Black Lives Matter protester was shot and killed in Austin, Texas, after allegedly pointing an AK-47 at a motorist who was also armed, there was an intense standoff in Eugene — the Austin Police Department had a sizable presence at the protest, but did not attempt to remove protesters from the roadway.

As seen in the video here, a man driving a pickup truck is pointing a handgun at an armed Antifa/BLM protester who is returning the favor.

The video was shared by C. Francis O’Leary, the daily editor at the Daily Emerald, and he tweeted that the motorist pulled his weapon when protesters blocked his way.

Conservative journalist Andy Ngo said in a tweet that the driver pulled the gun after being surrounded.

Another angle of the incident captured the moment the driver pulled his gun, after being confronted by the mob. The man had the door to his truck open as appeared to be going back and forth with the crowd.

The tweet was shared by a Black Lives Matter supporter who called for social media to doxx the man.

A second video shows the vehicle leaving the scene without any further interference.

As for the chaos in the streets, O’Leary said in a previous tweet that “BLM folks are marshaling traffic.” But then, Antifa types blocking traffic is nothing new in Oregon, as the scene plays out in Portland on a regular basis.

Fortunately, the face-off ended peacefully after about a minute, O’Leary tweeted — he wasn’t sure who lowered their weapon first.

Two full months after the death of George Floyd, the Black Lives Matter protest was being held Saturday in solidarity with Portland protesters and was met by a counter force holding “All Lives Matter” signs, the Eugene Register-Guard reported.

Police did little to intervene in the “aggressive confrontation,” until BLM protesters began rioting later that night.

More from the newspaper:

“Eugene police initially stayed away from the groups courthouse Saturday night during a face-off between pro-Black Lives Matter protesters and counterprotesters who waved American flags and held All Lives Matter signs. Police monitored the situation remotely using drones, Eugene police said, and only made their presence known later that night just before midnight, after protesters had marched throughout downtown spray painting property, breaking windows and lighting trash cans on fire along the way.”

At one point, a gun shot can be heard — the Register-Guard reported than one of the eight people arrested Saturday night was a person charged with “unlawful use of a weapon, related to a gun fired during the counter protest confrontation.”

It’s remarkable that the confrontation did not turn into a full scale war, given that the two sides were nose to nose with no police in sight.

All of which goes back to the aforementioned powder keg, as police have essentially been handcuffed in responding to the protests. And while the liberal media continues to insist these are “peaceful protests,” they often turn violent as the night wears on.

That is a daily routine in Portland. After playing to the cameras to present peaceful protesting, mayhem soon follows.

With no end to the lawless behavior in sight and the rioters becoming more and more emboldened, coupled with growing frustration from those Americans who have grown weary of anarchy in the streets, the likelihood of more lives being lost remains high.
