Missouri Governor Mike Parson joined President Trump in defending Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the St. Louis couple who armed themselves after a mob of Black Lives Matter protesters cut through an iron gate and swarmed their home.
Governor Parson, a Republican, said the McCloskeys “had every right to protect their property.” Parson made the remarks during a press conference, the St. Louis Dispatch reported.
Parson pointed out that as a former member of the Missouri House of Representatives, he sponsored the state’s Castle Doctrine, which allows homeowners to defend themselves and even shoot intruders without being prosecuted.
The McCloskeys did not shoot anyone.
Mark McCloskey, 63, and his wife Patricia, 61, said they had no choice but to arm themselves because the police didn’t show up after they called 911 begging for help.
The McCloskeys said they only retrieved their guns when Black Lives Matter thugs threatened to kill them and their dog after trespassing on their private property by cutting through an iron gate.
“One fellow standing right in front of me pulled out two pistol magazines, clicked them together and said, ‘You’re next,'” McCloskey said. “That was the first death threat we got that night.”
Parson also slammed St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kimberly Gardner for “attempting to take their Constitutional rights away” when she seized the McCloskeys’ legal firearms.
Gardner — a Democrat who’s running for reelection this year — is also trying to bring charges against the McCloskeys for defending themselves.

Mike Parson was blasted by his predecessor, former Missouri governor Eric Greitens, who called Parsons a coward for not speaking up earlier to defend the McCloskeys.
Greitens suggested that Governor Parson should have sent state troopers to the McCloskeys’ home when they were being swarmed by a BLM mob.
Greitens said the cowardice of Republican leaders is emboldening violent leftists.
“You have a cowardice problem,” Greitens told Fox News host Tucker Carlson. “You have some Republicans whose cowardice and complicity is accelerating and fueling the problem here. There is no leadership. There is no direction.”
President Trump also defended Mark and Patricia McCloskey, who have been demonized as racists by the mainstream media simply for defending themselves.
Trump said the McCloskeys did the right thing because otherwise, they could have been beaten up or murdered (as some other people have been by left-wing mobs).
“When you look at St. Louis, where two people, they came out. They were going to be beat up badly if they were lucky,” President Trump told Townhall. “They were going be beat up badly and the house was going to be totally ransacked and probably burned down like they tried to burn down churches.”
Trump continued: “And these people were standing there, never used it and they were legal — the weapons — and now I understand somebody local, they want to prosecute these people. It’s a disgrace.”
Mark McCloskey, an attorney, told Tucker Carlson that he’s expecting an indictment after a search warrant was executed on his home and his firearms were confiscated.
“I just held my ground, protected my house and I’m sitting here on television tonight instead of dead or putting out the smoldering embers of my home,” McCloskey. said. “The rumor is that we’re going to be indicted shortly. Having said that, this is the same circuit attorney that released 35 of the protesters that torched and looted downtown St. Louis. And now she wants to indict me.”
