Some conservatives are growing increasingly annoyed at the inconsistency that’s being displayed by members of the left as it pertains to their movement to erase American history.
Why is it, they wonder, that only Confederate generals and America’s Founding Fathers are being targeted? What about figures like, say, Margaret Sanger, the racist founder of Planned Parenthood?
If the left is really concerned about racism and black lives, when do they plan to target the statue of Margaret Sanger? pic.twitter.com/GFy0Xlofgs

Here’s a statue of Margaret Sanger at the Smithsonian. She founded Planned Parenthood and was a known racist who once spoke at a KKK rally. pic.twitter.com/NM9yolPKqb

If you’ve publicly supported Nazis, you shouldn’t have a statue, etc. Time to dump “Margaret Sanger Square” in NY & statue @ Smithsonian pic.twitter.com/tKD7VUVAo0

Hey, @DMVBlackLives , got a statue for you.
“Margaret Sanger, Planned Parenthood’s hero, supported eugenics to rid the nation of those she deemed ‘defective’ and ‘feeble-minded’ by stopping the growth of their populations, particularly blacks and other minorities.”

Like syndicated columnist Tim Graham noted this week, “The Left is interested in taking down all kinds of statues, which raises an obvious question: Where are the statues the Left has put up? No one’s ripping those down.”
Exactly, and that’s a point he and other conservatives believe needs to be conveyed given the double standards and hypocrisy at play. After all, Sanger was a racist.
“Her creation Planned Parenthood is a leading destroyer of black lives before they start,” Graham noted.
And purposefully so. She wanted to exterminate the black race and had no qualms about associating with the lowest dregs of society.
“I accepted an invitation to talk to the women’s branch of the Ku Klux Klan in Silver Lake, New Jersey. … In the end, through simple illustrations I believed I had accomplished my purpose. A dozen invitations to speak to similar groups were proffered,” her autobiography reportedly reads.

She was a genuinely nasty woman who’d sought to eliminate so-called “black lives,” yet there’s been no desire by Black Lives Matter-worshiping Democrats to erase her past.
It seems inconsistent, according to University of Texas government and philosophy professor J. Budziszewski.
“If they do ever decide to be consistent, today’s protestors might take a leaf from the book of a group of black pastors in 2015, who stood peacefully in front of the Smithsonian to dramatize their request that Sanger’s bust be removed,” he wrote in 2017, the year the movement to erase American history blew up because of the Charlottesville incident.
“In their letter to the Institution, they wrote that ‘perhaps the Gallery is unaware’ that Sanger supported eugenics, racism, and contempt for the feeble minded, or that she spoke at KKK rallies.”
In case you never heard about the pastors’ protest, it’s because it received minimal mainstream coverage at the time, save of course from Fox News:
As of 2020, the bust remains, because Smithsonian director Kim Sajet ultimately chose to ignore the protesters.
“Kim Sajet replied that the statue would stay, but the important thing is the reason that she offered: Not just that Sanger ‘made a significant impact on American history and culture,’ which is true, but that she ‘fought to achieve civil rights for disenfranchised or marginalized groups,'” Budziszewski wrote.
While that’s obviously “a greater distortion and erasure of history than tearing down the statue would have been,” as Budziszewski put it, it’s telling how the same standard isn’t being applied to the likes of, say, former President Abraham Lincoln, who’s currently being targeted for elimination despite him having signed the Emancipation Proclamation and freed the slaves.
According to Graham, “Boston Art Commission voted unanimously on June 30 to remove Boston’s copy of an Emancipation Memorial depicting a formerly enslaved man at the feet of Abraham Lincoln. That statue has stood in Boston’s Park Square since 1879. But, activists complained, it was a ‘white-created statue.'”
But so was Sanger’s bust. This woman, Joy Buba, sculpted it:

And she clearly was white.
It’s as if there are no consistent standards and principles at play — and it’s just a capricious free-for-all aimed not at rectifying historical wrongs, as the BLM types claim, but rather at just eliminating those aspects of American history that they personally dislike.
It’s all just so absurd, according to Graham.
“Sanger, the racist and eugenicist, remains, while Lincoln is removed. He’s apparently the enemy of the African-American people. An image of emancipation is traumatic. The abortions of black babies is apparently therapeutic,” his column concluded.
“Leftists … do not understand how people who gladly acknowledge that “black lives matter” would consider the Left’s moral posturing to be based on ideology more than reality. They speak angrily and endlessly of violated ‘black bodies,’ but to borrow a phrase from George Orwell, they imply some black bodies are more equal than others.”
