CNN again proved its disdain for America and what media bias looks like in a report referring to a pair of Founding Fathers and former presidents as just “two slave owners.”
The network was slammed with deserved criticism after correspondent Leyla Santiago’s report during coverage of President Donald Trump’s speech at Mt. Rushmore on Friday. Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh was one of many who called out CNN after the outrageous comment.
We could check the archives, but safe bet that this is the first time CNN has ever described Mount Rushmore as:
“A monument of two slave owners and on land wrestled away from Native Americans.”

“These people are insane,” the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted in response to the CNN segment.
Reporting ahead of the president’s Fourth of July event in South Dakota, CNN directed viewers to focus on “historically marginalized groups” as the holiday “can be bittersweet” for so many, according to host Jake Tapper
Santiago told Tapper that “kicking off the Independence Day weekend, President Trump will be at Mt. Rushmore where he’ll be standing in front of a monument of two slave owners and on land wrestled away from Native Americans, told that he’ll be focusing on the effort to, quote, tear down our country’s history.”
“All right. Leyla Santiago, with that report, thank you so much,” Tapper said without pushing back or clarifying her remark at all.
During the report, CNN decided its chyron on the screen should refer to July 4 by putting the word ‘Independence” in quotes, as if to make an even larger point even though Independence Day is the official name of the holiday.
“Reexamining ‘Independence’ Day,” the on-screen text read with the added heading: “As Americans grapple with racial reckoning, some are uncertain how to celebrate Independence Day.”
Santiago had already declared that “the very rights being celebrated on Independence Day are the same rights that millions of Americans say they and their ancestors have not been allowed to enjoy,” as she made sure to portray the president as a divider in her report.
“As Americans face a reckoning over racism past and present, there’s no message of healing from the White House. Instead, President Trump is calling a Black Lives Matter street mural a symbol of hate after New York City announced it would be painted in front of Trump Tower. He’s also demanding protection for symbols of Confederacy at campaign rallies,” she claimed.

Of course, Santiago did not clarify that the president is intent on protecting all monuments, not just Confederate ones. Ignorant rioters have vandalized and torn down statues and monuments honoring abolitionists as well as those of Thomas Jefferson, Francis Scott Key and Ulysses Grant.
Social media lit up at Santiago’s report and the blatant anti-Americanism on display by CNN as the nation headed into its birthday weekend.
“CNN has reduced the Founding Fathers of America, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson to just ‘two slave owners,’” JT Lewis, a Republican running for Connecticut State Senate, tweeted.
“CNN hates America,” Lewis, whose brother died in the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting, added.
Many pointed out how hypocritical CNN called Mount Rushmore “majestic” and “quite a sight” back in 2008 when former President Obama paid a visit to the monument, as Trump campaign Deputy Director of Communications Zach Parkinson pointed out in a tweet.

Vermont Senator and former Democratic 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said the monument made him “very proud to be an American.”
Well, feel the BERN! CNN & Bolshevik Bernie should explain why it was a great place 4 yrs ago, and today, it should be torn down. Why don’t we get rid of CNN instead of Mt. Rushmore? https://t.co/QkT3b2fBdX

“CNN goes all-in attacking Mt. Rushmore,” Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas tweeted, “So when do we give back Manhattan?”
As protesters who tried to block access to Mt. Rushmore on Friday were shut down by the National Guard, and as Trump went on to give a rousing speech at the event, CNN was torched by social media users for its “reporting.”
@CNN needs to leave America because they don’t seem to like anything about it.

I’ve got news for #FakeNews @CNN, most Americans are NOT “grappling with racial reckoning” and are not at all “uncertain how to celebrate Independence Day”.

All along ignoring that without America they wouldn’t be able to moan and groan about it. Miserable.

Apparently an education is optional for reporters.
