Jesse Watters’ interview of NASCAR’s Bubba Wallace is not what was expected

Fox News host Jesse Watters was slammed by many viewers for doing a softball interview with NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, who continues to insist that a benign garage-door pull rope was a racist “noose.”

Watters did not push back at Wallace when he bragged that he doesn’t regret playing the race card when he falsely claimed he was the victim of a hate crime — even before investigating the incident.

Fifteen FBI agents immediately investigated the matter and concluded that no hate crime occurred.

Wallace has since admitted that he was “embarrassed” for overhyping the incident and jumping to conclusions. Moreover, Bubba conceded that he “was not the target” of a racist hate crime. Yet he still insists that the garage door rope was a “noose.”

Watters said (see video below): “Everyone’s happy it wasn’t a hate crime and that you were not targeted. So one of your team members, African-American guy, noticed the rope hanging down that looks like a ‘noose.’ He contacts NASCAR. NASCAR contacts you, and they launch an FBI investigation. Is that how it went down?”

Wallace replied: “Yes, David Cropps, my team member there. He said before he overreacted, he did his research. I talked to the FBI twice. [The FBI found it was] there since 2019. The ‘noose’ was there since 2019 and I was not the target of a hate crime. But in fact, it was a noose. Not a working noose as they say, but it was a noose.”

Does Bubba realize that he can’t simultaneously claim the garage-door pull rope was a “noose” while also saying he was not the target of a racist hate crime?

Amid criticism that Wallace and his team hatched the botched “noose hoax” as a PR stunt, Bubba insists that’s not the case.

Keep in mind that most of America now knows Bubba Wallace. Two weeks ago, very few people outside of the NASCAR community knew his name.

After claiming he was a victim, Wallace was barraged with support from celebrities who previously had no idea who he was. Among them was NBA star LeBron James. Wallace also appeared several times on CNN and on The View.

Despite gaining more fame for claiming to be a victim than for any achievement on the race track, Wallace insists that his “noose hoax” was not a stunt to raise his profile. But that’s exactly what happened — on a global scale.

This kind of publicity would normally cost millions to buy. Wallace got it for free by playing the race card and painting himself as a victim

Wallace said: “Let’s get it straight: This wasn’t used as a publicity stunt on my end. I don’t need all the fame and all the media hype to create my brand and create my image. People that know me know I’m 100% raw and real. I just go out and give my all on the racetrack.”

Here’s a video of Wallace being “raw and real” when he threw water into the face of a competitor and his wife.

Bubba first claimed he never saw the rope and that one of his black team members (David Cropps) who saw it reported the garage-door rope to NASCAR.

After media coverage exploded, Wallace lied and insisted that he DID see the “noose” before NASCAR publicized the incident.

In an effort to recover his credibility, Wallace has since played up his victim status — even while admitting that he was not the target of a hate crime. “It was a relief that I wasn’t a target of that,” Wallace said.

Jesse Watters was widely slammed by Fox News viewers for his lame interview that rewarded Wallace for being a non-victim of a nonexistent crime.

One person tweeted: “Jesse, you were disappointing with the questions. Bubba played this to the hilt. Even when he found out that this was not a noose, he still went on with [Don] Lemon. You never questioned him about that. You were the loser.”

Another remarked in disgust: “Softball interview.”

One man quipped: “Wow. Softballs.”

Still another chimed in: “Everyone needs to stop calling it what it’s not. Not a noose, not a “working” noose, but simply a loop that aided in closing the overhead door!”

“The race war is a slippery slope to drive down when you are on the side, knowingly igniting the flames. Zero coverage deserved and negative respect.”

“It was a knot, not a ‘noose.’ ”
