With states being buried in an avalanche of unemployment claims as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, processing the vast number has proven to be a challenge.
Michigan is among the states struggling to get benefits to those who, for no fault of their own, have been left unemployed.
In a scene that perfectly captures the ineptitude of progressivism, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s solution to the crisis was to offer a hot dog.
The controversial governor was serving hot dogs at Lafayette Coney Island in Detroit on Thursday when she was approached by a man who claimed to be an unemployed health care worker.
While Gov. Whitmer was serving coney dogs in Detroit today a laid-off healthcare worker asked for help because his unemployment benefits are still not processed.
Her response?

“I haven’t received none of my benefits yet,” he is heard telling Whitmer. “Is there any possible way you could put my name in?”
The governor replied, “Can I buy ya a hot dog?”
To be fair, she first said that she’ll “check in on it” — without asking for any details.
The man rejected her offer of a hot dog, which is aptly representative of the empty gesture on display.
Whitmer has repeatedly expended the state’s lockdown order, even after many other states began opening up.
Late to the party, the Democrat’s photo op Thursday was part of a campaign to open up the state’s restaurants safely during the pandemic, WDIV-TV reported.
“I wanted to get in and work alongside people that are showing up and doing it safely so people know we’re open for business, you can come in and enjoy this phenomenal food and do so safely,” she said.
Whitmer has gone further than most states in response to the pandemic, dictating to retailers what can and cannot be sold and even banning family visits.
In an executive order signed back in April, retailers were required to stop selling “non-essential” items and rope off areas like paint and garden centers.
“If you’re not buying food or medicine or other essential items, you should not be going to the store,” Whitmer said at the time.
With her name reportedly among those on presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s shortlist for running mates, Whitmer frequently lashes out at President Trump in an attempt to prove worthy of being selected.
Amid the recent Black Lives Matter riots, the governor essentially laid the blame on the Trump, claiming his administration was “determined to sow the seeds of hatred and division, which I fear will only lead to more violence and destruction.”
Here’s a quick sampling of the responses to the story from Twitter:

When will Gov. Whitmer formerly remove herself from being vetted as a VP choice and let a woman of color accept the honor? @ewarren wants to know.
