A man wearing a “red hat” appeared to be set upon by a violent mob apparently in Columbia, S.C. in a viral video posted by a local reporter.
Miranda Parnell, a journalist with WIS TV in Columbia, shared the video on Twitter, with the label “someone just showed up in a red hat” at the protests over the death of George Floyd, who died while in the custody of Minneapolis police.
A rock-throwing protester struck Parnell in the head while covering the day of protests at the city hall and the statehouse.

The reporter didn’t specifically indicate whether the headgear was a MAGA hat, but a WIS colleague seemed to confirm that was the case.
Wrote anchor Judi Gatson, “Just talked to @miranda_parnell. She says a person wearing a MAGA hat showed up at the rally, protestors confronted that person & then rocks were thrown … one of them hitting Miranda. She’s headed to the hospital to be checked out.”

AP checked in with Miranda Parnell who further detailed what happened.
“‘They began throwing water bottles and sandwiches … and as we were walking away, someone in a red hat showed up and protesters began chasing that person down. A new police line formed and some protesters began throwing rocks. I got caught in the crossfire,’ she said.”
Parnell, who said she was dazed and was bleeding, received treatment at the ER and is okay, fortunately. At this writing, there is no word on the status of the red-hat-wearing man who was attacked in the video.
The reporter subsequently released a video underscoring that apart from some “bad apples,” the protesters were mostly peaceful and were seeking “true justice and equality.”
Although predictably blue-check Twitter claimed the man — whose side of the story has yet to be heard — provoked the mob, fair-minded users had other thoughts: (** Language warning)
So devils advocate in a way is it possible he was there to support and be a trump supporter as well? Is it possible to support that red hat and stand behind the people that are outraged all over the nation

What is depicted in this video is a lynching. The comments in this thread are sickening. This is a mob physically attacking an individual either because of his race or because of his politics. How can anyone think this is OK?

This shit is it… people “fighting” for change attacking people because of what he’s wearing but doesn’t want the stereotype used on them?

It’s absurd for left-wing Twitter to claim that a MAGA hat is a symbol of racism when taking into consideration Trump administration initiatives such as for criminal justice and prison reform, opportunity zones, permanent funding for historically black colleges, and record (pre-COVID) unemployment among blacks, Hispanics, and the workforce generally.
President Trump has ordered an expedited federal civil rights investigation into the George Floyd incident in addition to the state charges that the police officers involve already face along with additional charges. He has also vowed to restore law and order because “the memory of George Floyd is being dishonored by rioters, looters and anarchists.”
Over the past three or four years, Trump supporters have been routinely harassed or physically assaulted merely for wearing MAGA hats or similar forms of wardrobe.
Parenthetically, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, a department that is featured on the popular TV series Live PD, is one of the principal agencies responsible for law enforcement in and around Columbia.
