One Republican congressman has broken ranks with his colleagues and seemingly joined congressional Democrats in their push for mail-in voting, and that “Republican” is the one and only Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah.
“In my state, I’ll bet 90% of us vote by mail. It works very, very well and it’s a very Republican state,” he reportedly said Wednesday to reporters in defense of the Democrats’ latest plot to affect how America’s elections function.
His stunning defense of mail-in voting triggered an immediate backlash, with some social media users encouraging him to give up the farce already and join the Democrat Party.
Look:
@SenatorRomney are you really supporting mail-in voting?! Do you oppose voter ID? Have you considered switching to the Democrat party?

@SenatorRomney just the fact you plan to support mail in voting leads me to believe you are just another Democrat scumbag.

@SenatorRomney as you have once again sided with the Democrats, please change your affiliation as you are nothing more than a RINO. Mail in voting is probably the only way you can win re-election.

BREAKING: @UtahGOP ‘s @MittRomney @SenatorRomney
has once again sided with the Democrats and said he will BACK mail-in voting….🤦♂️
Carpetbaggers gonna do what carpetbaggers do.😡— Rob O Ben (@1RoboBen) May 22, 2020
Because he believes mail-in voting will help defeat Trump. Romney is a bitter, self-centered RINO elitist who should just switch parties.

It doesn’t surprise me. @SenatorRomney is a RINO. He’s a fake. Sorry Mittens but u can back Dems on mail-in voting but it just makes you look stupid. Americans can go to stores & stand 6 ft apart in line to get in but we can’t do the same when we vote? Such STUPID logic!🙄😷

Romney has turned his back on the Republican Party multiple times this year alone, with his biggest betrayal having occurred when he became the only Senate Republican in American history to vote to impeach a sitting Republican president.
The betrayal was so stunning it provoking Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs into likening the senator to a modern-day “Judas.”
“Romney is going to be associated with Judas, Brutus, Benedict Arnold forever, when he is not even a footnote in a footnote otherwise, because of his betrayal,” he said.
Ed Rollins, the co-chairman of the Donald Trump Great America PAC, added that, based on Romney’s treacherous behavior, he’s essentially no longer even a Republican.
“Romney said when he’s running for the Senate, ‘I’m not a Reagan Republican,’” Rollins noted. “He’s now not a Trump Republican. There are no Romney Republicans.”

But it’s not just Romney’s reflexive opposition to anything Trump that appears to make him so treacherous. It’s his apparent opposition to Republican principles.
Case in point: Earlier this month the high-powered, 55-year-old American Conservative Union awarded all of Utah’s Republican members of Congress for voting in-line with Republican principles — all but one, that is.
“The American Conservative Union Foundation … says Sen. Mike Lee and Reps. Rob Bishop, John Curtis and Chris Stewart all had scores of 80% or higher on its metric adhering to conservative principles but Romney didn’t make the cut,” The Salt Lake Tribune reported at the time.
The senator’s sudden support for mail-in voting is particularly jarring given the potential repercussions of this scheme: massive confusion and possible voter fraud.
Consider what happened during the 2018 midterm elections.
“A week after polls closed, Americans still don’t know who won major races: gubernatorial races in Florida and Georgia, a Florida Senate seat and several House contests. Candidates who conceded on election night are backtracking and demanding ‘every vote be counted,’ as late-arriving ballots change the tallies,” Betsy McCaughey of the New York Post noted at the time.
She added that the problems were the result of the “overuse of mail-in ballots and of provisional balloting by people who lacked ID, didn’t appear on registration rolls or voted outside the county where they live. These accommodations create opportunities for incompetence and trickery by election officials and turn Election Day into a teaser for the ultimate outcome, decided by lawyers and judges.”
Fact-check: TRUE.
The same problems are arising now amid the Democrat primaries, with mail-in ballots being sent to the wrong state, being sent to the wrong people, being sent late or not even being sent at all.
This afternoon, I delivered a letter to the MD Board of Elections calling for an emergency open meeting to clarify the whereabouts of Baltimore’s ballots for the #June2 Primary. When people marched and died for this right, it is everyone’s responsibility to take this seriously. pic.twitter.com/n77bHyWJYc

We’ve been told they could arrive as late as Saturday for Baltimore City voters. If you want to check the status of your ballot, call the local Board of Elections (410) 396-5550

Over in Texas meanwhile, voters were treated to duplicate ballots for their own primary elections back in March.
“Nearly 500 Bastrop County voters who requested ballots by mail for the March primaries each received three ballots by error, and the county elections office had received duplicate ballots from at least 14 voters as of Tuesday,” the Waxahachie Daily Light reported at the time.
“Two of those voters submitted three ballots, Elections Administrator Kristin Miles said, though she cautioned that the county’s election software flagged the 16 duplicate ballots submitted to her office.”
FYI, 16 ballots are enough to swing a local election …
And back in Utah, where Romney claimed mail-in voting “works very very well,” there have in fact been some notable problems, with the Tribune reporting last year that some mothers whose children were away on religious missions were filling out their kids’ ballots for them.
